According to Henry Scammell's " New Arthritis Breakthrough " some

types of Arthritis are caused by Strep bacteria that travel through

the body and when they find certain types of tissue (joints, tendons)

they settle in and change to a mycoplasma form where they hide

and do their damage. I think they can change back too. I have

PsA in tendons and have had strep in skin infections (pimples).

Hi

My son is six and has autism but had group b strep when he was two weeks old.

He was in the hospital for 10 days on 3 different kinds of antibiotics for

this. I had a c-section but didn't know I was a carrier.

Very interesting!!! I went into premature labor with my son at 26

weeks after receiving a rhogham shot. When I was hospitalized they

found out I was a step B carrier. I was able to go on and carry my

son to 37 1/2 weeks c-section complete breech.

My second child a girl came at full term but also has metal

poisoning and displays ADD or Bipolar behavior.

Presuming that the strep problem is in the throat this may help.

Strep is a hungry critter, if your son can tolerate acidophilus a natural

occurring colon flora you can help him. The normal colon flora get put of

balance especially with antibiotic use, it is killed out. Strep feeds on this

flora and is and is part of the normal flora as is blood born yeast it also

belongs in the colon and goes looking for food when the Colon is upset. What you

do is take the acidophilus at the first sine of sore throat at about a 1/4

teaspoon or 1 to 2 capsules every 30 min. for about 3 to 4 hours and if started

in time will pull the strep back into the gut and the sore throat improves.

With the multifaceted challenges of autism and the gut problems is no wonder

there are so many different thing to be bothered with.

My son has one of these " special interests " , space, and thinks of little else.

He also gets strep a lot and it seems to be connected. I know about the PANDAS

research but if anyone has any other info, I would appreciate it. My main

question right now is: What do we treat strep with??? We've been doing the

penicillin shots to keep the antibiotics out of his gut but they don't seem to

be working. Thanks to anyone that can help.....Kathy

Hello Kathy:

I asked this question a while back to this list and another. I've saved

all the reply's and will cut and paste as much as I can. Hope it's

helpful. As you will see there are many opinions out there and much to

pick thru. I've got more but I think this is enough to start.

In Christ's love and mine...Jen : )

1 I would suggest improving his health and immune system through diet.

I would eliminate all sugar and dairy products, increase his vitamin C

intake, and add the herbs echinacea, garlic (a natural antibiotic), and

astragalus. I would not remove his tonsils. Good luck! Carolyn

2. There are several essential oils that are effective against strep

throat. Cinnamon, Oregano and Thyme are three that are very effective.

These are very strong oils and should be diluted with vegetabe oil before

applying. If the child likes pizza, add a couple of drops to his slice

of pizza.

It sounds like the strep is never completely gotten rid of by the

antibiotics. I would suggest a technique called " Raindrop therapy " . You

can give this mother my email number and I could answer questions of any

nature not diagnostic.

3.

milk is the most common cause of tonsillitis in this day and age

and removal is NOT the answer. Get the child off grain and dairy

and make sure there is animal protein three times a day.

If the child is on a vegetarian diet find a source of arachidonic acid.

The child is in big trouble if it is on a vegetarian diet, sorry about

that.

The tonsil can be stripped physically, take the child to a doctor

that does that. This is like " squeezing a zit " , I've done it many

times on children and had it done on myself once after clinically

inducing

tonsillitis on myself by eating a ton of ice cream to prove the

point to myself. The moment my tonsils were stripped, I immediately

felt a wave of relief of the " sick syndrome " and went on to uneventful

recovery.

4. Strep throat has been one of the frequent unwelcomed guests in our

household over the years. We have 6 children ages ranging from 29 yr to

12 yr. All have had this at one time or another as well as myself. My

husband - can't remember him having it.

My strong advise to you is to NOT have the tonsils out!!! This does not

solve the problem!!! All this does is remove part of the lymph system!

Four of our children have had their tonsils out. All of them have had

strept throat in the years since. The one who had the worst case of

enlarged tonsils (kissing tonsils), repented cases of strep and ear

infections (lost some hearing) is now 27 yrs. The doctors highly advised

us to have her tonsils removed at about 5 1/2 or 6 yrs because they were

touching. We held off until she was about 11 yrs. But that did not stop

the strep. It did help to open up the throat, of course!! No more

kissing tonsils!!

Our youngest daughter who is now 12 1/2 introduced us to the world of

acquired Autism. She was constantly sick with ear infections, strep

throat, heavy yellow as well as white mucus down her throat and out her

nose from infancy. She was just off 24 hrs from her 3rd round of

antiobiotics when she received her 1st vaccinations (DPT & Polio) at 5

months.

Because of this daughter's health challenges as well as the fact her

sister who is 12 yrs older had developed Chronic Fatigue/Fibromyalgia and

also was constantly battling one infection after another -including

strep; I set out to find ways to help them.

So, with this much background given, I would like to share with you some

approaches to try rather than surgery.

The first two are items that can be found in health food stores.

1. Grapefruit seed extract. obtain the liquid and dissolve in pure water

according to instructions. One can gargle, swish and swallow this.

Toothbrushes can be placed in it to soak.

2. Colloidal Silver. Obtain one that is 20 ppm for the most

effectiveness. This was the first alternative supplement that we tried

with our youngest daughter. It helped her greatly. But I continued to

look for other things that we could use for various reasons.

The following items we have obtained from companies we have ordered from.

3. Transfer Factor. The best product we feel is from 4Life Research.

Using this at triple the maintence dosage for a period of 10 days and

then dropping gradually down to maintence resulted in completely stopping

Strep from returning. This is a recent addition to the things we have

tried. Started it April 2000.

4. Pycnogenol. This is the bark of the Maritime Pine Tree. One MUST

obtain a brand that has an enzyme delivery system for it truly to be

effective. There are several companies that are excellent. But so far I

have found none at health food stores. I continue to keep my eye out

when I go into my local stores. Also Grape seed/skin extract is helpful

to some and there are some companies that combine both the Pycnogenol and

Grape seed/skin.

5. Immune Pack. This is a product that is derived from several algae

and is extremely high in Carotenoids. It is only obtained from a

company called Royal BodyCare. The main parts to this a Beta Carotene

and Phycotene. This is the 2nd supplement along with Pycnogenol that we

introduced to our youngest daughter. She was totally free of ALL

infections for 3 yrs until the particular formula of Immune Pack (in a

loose form in a capsule we could open up and mix in applesauce), was

discontinued. Immune Pack is still offered in a pressed tablet. But

there is taste to it that this daughter would not tolerate. Once we

could not give her the immune pack she developed various infections.

First was an infection in her stomach and intestines and then strep

returned.

6. Microhydrin This is also from Royal BodyCare. We started this about

3 months after we were unable to obtain the form of Immune Pack that she

would agree to consume. It along with Crystal Energy are the creations

of Drs and Gael Crystal Flanagan. Both products are worth

considering.

If I were you at this time I think I would go to a local health food

store and obtain liquid Grapefruit seed extract and probably Colloidal

Silver. The Grapefruit Seed is the least expensive. Give that a try

and see if you can see some improvements.

The next thing I would do is to obtain the 4Life Transfer Factor. Use

it along with the Grapefruit Seed and/or Colloidal Silver. You should

be able to prevent surgery! And you should be able to get the cycle of

strep throat undercontrol. (By the way, Transfer Factor is best

started at a low dosage and worked up because it does detoxify and one

can feel like they have the flu when starting it.)

Best wishes

Jan Wilkes

5.

http://www.hacres.com for mostly raw foods diet. He proabably could use a

major detox cleansing & probably some nutritional/herbal support specific

to this health concern

6. We have had excellent results using vit c and olive leaf extract. Jon

Eisen

7.

Sure I can answer this. Each part of the sinus' have to be worked on.

I use Burdock Root to stop the flow down the back of the throat.

Sarsparilla Root to get sulphur back into the tonsils as well as any

foods that contain it into the diet and it helps the sore throat as well.

Use Guaranteed Potency Olive Leaf and Goldenseal to handle any bacteria

present and keep infection in check. Also, gargle with hot sea salt water

and the spice tumeric as many times a day as necessary. To keep it from

happening over and over.......stop the dairy products. To many cheeses,

milk etc. in ones diet as well as fried food can overload the fat

content. Sulphur is an antidote but the tonsils only contain so much.

Kathy,

I get rid of Strep for all of my children with " Oil of Oregano " and or

" Oregamax " but...boy o boy is the oil nasty. My two NT children take two

drops under the tongue willingly now, because they know it works in 2 to 3

days, as opposed to the 10 days of Penicillin which even the Doctor said is

questionable whether it would work and then we may have to switch or use a

stronger antibiotic. I need to put the drops in OJ for Jon.

Maybe someone knows something that tastes better?

This is great information! Someone also told me once to change all the

toothbrushes in the house and pillow cases too that it can come back this

way. and also treat pets for it too.

I don't know how accurate this is but I do it anyway. What the heck...needs

changing anyway

Hi,

My 8 year old daughter just went through this exact thing 1 month ago. It

put her in a dysbiosis crisis. She is bright and capable and not even able

to meet the diagnosis of ADD/ADHD. After the short run of penicillin she

went into a terrible time that made her not able to sit in class. It was

like having a 2 year old again.

We hit hard on probiotics--100 billion CFU (colony forming units) worth a

day, including many Culturelle for the Clostridia. We gave a variety of

probiotics throughout the day. I tried the prescription things like

Nystatin for yeast and Flagyl for Clostridia but that made her stomach hurt

too much. We went to Olive Leaf Oil, Oregano Oil, GSE, Caprylic Acid, and

use of coconut oil with fried foods (eggs esp).

ANDY suggested charcoal capsules throughout the day to get rid of the die-off

and he suggested silymarin to support the liver. Magnesium sulfate to make

sure she is pooping it all out. Goldenseal, too. He suggested the Specific

Carbohydrate Diet to keep the bugs at bay. I put her on that too and it

seemed to help.

I will NEVER give her an antibiotic again unless it is life or death. This

whole thing was too hard on her and the whole family.

She is well now but I am continuing to really fight a daily battle with gut

bugs. I hope to chelate again this weekend after letting it go for 3 weeks

due to severe dysbiosis.

Good luck,

in Salt Lake City

Wow, sounds like a real challenge - hopefully he won't go that far

overboard. Unfortunately I don't know what dysbiosis crisis is, but

can imagine it is a bad gut spell. I have my son give daily reports

on his BMs, and so far no change, but not completely " normal "

either.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will hit the probiotics big time,

along with the no-fenol suggested earlier, and cut back the sugars

for now. My DS is such a selective eater that I'm really worried

about doing the specific carbohydrate diet. But, if it comes to

that, surely it can't be much worse than what we are doing now.

  • 4 months later...

I got PA from an untreated case of strep when I was 11. Now whenever I

get a sore throat ( post nasal drip, allergies) the PA flares up. It

usually lasts about 2 months and leaves scars. I have been put on

antibiotics at the first sign of a sore throat, but that never worked

(although derm never understood why it didn't). Although it's hard not

to get sick, especially with 2 school age boys, I do limit my contact

with people during cold/flu season.

Our listmate Margaret posted a month ago that she has success with

GSE (grapefruit seed extract) for strep throat.

Strep is a bacteria, not a virus.

Things that may help (discuss with your pediatrician, of course, since

I'm not a doctor...):

More probiotics

Selenium

Zinc

Vitamins A, C, E

Echinacea

HIH,

does anyone know if I can give GSE and still have her take her time release

adderall? I thought I remembered that this was possibly contraindicated.

Strep is a bacteria. Strep if left untreated, can go to the heart

and kidneys. Personally, I would take your daughter to the

doctor.

With that said, here are some ideas for anti-viral and anti

bacterial supplements:

Echincea/Goldenseal , Grapefruit Seed Extract, Olive Leaf Extract,

Virastop, Lauricidin, Oil of Oregano, Cayenne, Welleness Factor by

Source Naturals.

Giving Vitamin A and Vitamin C, and Quericitin, Grapeseed Extract,

Elderberry Extract are helpful for any infection.

do something too.

She is scheduled for tomorrow. I planned this and was just curious if there were

anything in addition to the antibiotics I can give her. Thank you for your

input.

Strep should be treated with an antibiotic. It is a bacteria, not a virus.

My #4 would get frequent strep infections [bacterial]. I was taking

her to the ped every few months, and he would always rx Zithromax. He

told me the boys would probably also get it, because it is contagious.

I gave them olive leaf extract, and they never got it.

The last time she had strep, instead of taking her to the ped, I gave

her the OLE. That was the last time she ever had strep.

If Adderall is an SSRI medication, GSE can cause problems with

metabolism if her phase I liver metabolism is already slow.

Adderall is not an ssri, but she is on zoloft as well, which is an ssri. What

would you recommend besides GSE. I have doubled up on her probiotics, she is on

the Z pack antibiotic for 5 days, Her strep test was positive, so I have her on

ton of liquids, as well.

Thanks
