Guest guest
Hi Karima, I would not cycle normally as I am in menopause (I guess?). Since last May, I have been getting E and T pellet inserts. Finally the estrogen seems to be "sticking" and stays in my body for some time. I find that when my E levels are between 150 and 200, I feel the absolute best. Of course .. since I still have all my parts, I do need to (at the least) cycle progesterone into my whole hormone protocol. At the beginning when my estrogen levels continued to stay under the "100" level, I really felt the bad effects of the P. Once the estrogen seemed to be stabilized in my body, I don't feel any P side effects. (Well, nothing like I used to anyways.) My thoughts on this, is that if your E level is "where it should be" the P effects are minimized. That said ... when I began my whole pellet protocol, I thought I was going to die with all of the P that was being advocated that I use. I felt so badly, I did not know how I was going to do it. I knew I did not want to quit the pellets .. 'cause I knew how good I was feeling in between that required cycling of the P. It did not matter what form of P I tried, I felt awful. Finally .. after using the prometrium vaginally .. I felt I had the least side effects. .. And like I said, those side effects are really minimal now that my E level has stabilized. (That is my philosopy anyways.) It's important that I get enough of the progesterone, so that I shed the endometrial lining, as I am supposed to. I find that if I don't use "enough" P, my endometrium measures on the "too thick" side. The amount of P that you use .. does it bring on the necessary shedding of the lining? Have you ever had your drs. tell you that you endometrial lining was too thick and that you are not using enough P? All that I mention here .. is with a big question mark for you. What do you think about all of this Karima? Thanks, Glo In my experience, vaginal application of Prometrium is a HUGE dose. Much stronger than orally because it doesn't go through liver. I super overdosed on that. Now I use the tiniest of dabs vaginally 14 days per month. I can feel when I need to start and follow moon cycle. Lost control of my eye muscles on Prometrium. Was pretty funny trying to see for the first hour of each day. Everyone is different in their reaction. I don't know why anyone would take the P if they were still cycling. I had a tubal in my 20s and it reduced my estrogen somewhat, but P production was not compromised. I'm in menopause now so need a bit of P, but not much. The Dr's I see don't have much experience with hormones so I do my research and tell them what I need. They have been very cooperative to my surprise. But here in Canada there is no profit motive for them to try to convince me to take a certain protocol (not unless I went to one of the Wiley Dr's, and they do have them here). Karima Hi, That was me .. way overdosed on the topical progesterone cream. I was on 200mgs a day for four years. Because I was such in a constant "fog" I did not realize that it was that causing my problems. Anyway, after I finally got myself off the P, I could not tolerate (really) any form of P. I now have hormone pellets (Estradiol and Testosterone) so I do cycle Prometrium for 12 days a month. I do not take it orally (as it is prescribed.) I use it vaginally. Using it this way seems to minimize any side effects of the P. Best, Glo I was on the Wiley Protocol for approximately a year. I have a new doctor who has me on an estradial/estriol combination cream and progesterone capsules. If you open the capsules they contain an oil.. I can take the cream OK but can't tolerate the capsules. Do you think this is because I overdosed on the Wiley progesterone. What can be done so that I can take progesterone again? The dr in LA is Uzzi Reiss. Liz I've heard Dr Johathon Write is good. He is I believe in pacific northwest. Lots of people like a guy in souther california but I can't remember his name. Dr Vleit has published some very informative material. She is in southwest. I went to a local compounding pharmacy and asked who was good there. I personally stayed completely away from any dr's connected with the Wiley protocol. I felt angry and manipulated just reading the book.I looked up all the Dr on Wiley's website that are part of the protocol and avoided them. This way I found a decent Dr.Hope this helps. Karima Hi thereCan anyone please point me in the direction of a doctor who is skilled in bio-identical hormone replacement in America? Guest guest
No i haven't had any Drs here do that. However, being in Canada, there seems to be less P pushing. They just go by standard doses. I'm not aiming for certain estrogen levels, but a balance between E & P that works. I agree that extra E knocks down the P. But, for me, that just escalates, more E makes more lining, which requires more P, then more E. So I am doing low dose for both. Too much E doesn't make me feel good either. One way to tell what is going on with lining is to feel cervix. It gets thicker when there is a build up and smaller after cycling. If you get to know the state of the cervix, then you can kind of compare the scans with the hormonal cycle or with feedback from scans. This can also be used to determine when ovulation takes place. I used this when I was cycling to help make birth control methods more reliable.KarimaThe amount of P that you use .. does it bring on the necessary shedding of the lining?
