Has anyone had twitchy muscles around the eyes and face as a low estrogen issue? And can the requirement for estrogen go UP? I've been pretty steady at .075 for years but am now suddenly having night sweats and some minor hot flashes in the daytime, as well as twitchy eye muscles for a few weeks. I had a TAH a few years ago and take no P, so am wondering if my requirement for E could go up or if I have perhaps stopped absorbing the patches.

Best to everyone,

Gael

Ocular migraines. Day#28 or #1 of my cycle. Tried an extraPump of the estrogen today to see if the ocular migraine wasCaused by a drop... I noticed that last month. Yep. I am already using 3 pumps of estrogen everyday! I had anAblation in September & Dr Vliet said to use estrogen as my issues wereDue to low estrogen: not worry about progesterone. My doctor decided to go on vacation this week when IShould be finding out my results! I am having horrible Anxiety.. If I use progesterone I get suicidal & get these ocularMigraines.. Anyone else experience this? What did you do?

If I have too much estrogen I get very anxious, feel as if I'm going to die. It's one of the reasons I am wary about upping estrogen, even when it seems I need an increase.

Thanks for your reply re twitching and estrogen, Liz.

Gael

Hello,Are you saying the extra estrogen is causing the anxiety or did you have that before you used the extra? Liz

Hi Gael,

My sister had to keep increasing her patches. Over a 2 year period, she is now up to 2 - .1mg vivelle dots. I have twitching all the time. I don’t know if it’s an estrogen thing or from a valium withdrawal I went through as I never had twitching before that. Mine is in my legs and feet. But gets worse when I”m sick or stressed.

According to Dr. , estrogen strengthens the sympathetic nervous system and progesterone strengthens the parasympathetic. So if you get to parasympathetic you could get twitchy. Magnesium is sometimes used for twitchy and not too much calcium with it. I have opposite problem and am trying to keep my sympathetic system up and running. Parasympathetic is just fine. However, I still need some progesterone to stay balanced. Some of my friends really don't like the feeling from E or P and refuse to take it. I believe their adrenals and other endocrine glands are producing what they need on their own even though they are menopausal.Karima

I had the anxiety prior to using the extra... I am finding the extra helped me

out today.. Just wondering if anyone went through this trying to find the

'right' dose?? My doctor wasn't too keen on the 3 pumps of estrogel that I have

been doing for the past 3 months... So, using 4 pumps today makes me wonder

'what is going on that I need this much?

A number of meds/ingredients in meds can cause the ove-execretion of

electrolytes from the body. I just take a package of electrolytes every night

(by Emergen-C), and it stops all the twitching everywhere.

You know, Val, when I was in my 30s we lived in TN and went to Calloway Gardens in Ga where I think I was bitten by a tick. I came home with a bullseye rash of some sort that went away fairly quickly. I have been sick off and on since then, and have even had the Lyme tests, and seen an expert on Lyme at Scrips in San Diego several years ago. He said there was no way to know if I had it, because at that time apparently the tests only caught it within a certain window of time. Also, I am allergic to almost all antibiotics but erythromycin, and it is thought better to save that for serious infection rather than be on it for long periods of time, as the thinking was about Lyme at that time, which was 15 years ago.

I'm almost afraid to go find out if I have Lyme or not, because it would be literally almost 30 years after the infection and I wonder if there is even treatment other than antibiotics.

If this is Lyme, it would explain a LOT that has happened over the past few decades, including the horrible palpitations (one time I had them for almost a year SOLID, no break) and the twitching around the eyes (muscles, and also blinking when eyes are closed).

Thank you,

Gael

This sounds great. I don't know about the rash because mine looked like a bullseye to me, and I didn't even know about Lyme, and then I got very very sick for a week or more, maybe two, my memory of it and everything else is kind of hazy. I had little dark spots on my ankles and feet and lower legs and ran a fever and my joints hurt terribly and I couldn't get out of bed, which was dire for me. I had two small children at home and my husband was in Japan working, and the children had to fend for themselves, again, very unlike me. I was put on Kelfex at the time but when I developed the skin spots the doctor decided I was allergic to it, since I had already had a reaction to penicillin and K is in the same family. I mentioned the rash, but I think it was early in the game back then for Lyme awareness and she pretty well ignored it, but put me on an antibiotic. Truly that was one of the times in my life when I was the sickest. Later, after I recovered from that, we moved, but I kept having odd little health things going on, like the palpitations, odd memory things which have persisted and gotten worse and worse, and now I have just had a thyroid biopsy for some largish nodules. Ringing in ears, eyes twitching when closed, never feeling right, feeling overwhelmed, all kinds of odd things. Of course when I hit 50, I began to blame it on M, even though I didn't actually go through it until I was nearly 56.

Thanks for reminding me about Lyme. I never think of it or consider that I might have it until someone brings it up. I don't know if that's my bad memory or just that I don't make the connection.

It's great to hear that you are doing better, Val. You have had a terrible time of it. I am so happy to hear that you are getting your life back.

Gael

If you had the bulls' eye rash, you have Lyme. The rash is 100% diagnostic. The screening test commonly used misses 50% of cases. I fly out to CA (SF area) to see a Lyme specialist. Most docs know nothing of Lyme and many are actually abusive if you mention it. I was sick for 24.5 years before diagnosis and beginning treatment. I've been on an IV for 10 months and my life has turned around. I can think, I can visit with my family, I can shower on the same day I have to go somewhere, and I don't have to take Ativan before talking to someone. I feel alive for the first time in many, many years.

Gael,

I could have written your story.  For

years now, I've thought our symptoms were similar.  Now, I understand why.  In addition to Lyme, I have Bartonella and Babesia.  I have a Lyme-literate MD in California who

uses supplements, homeopathics, antibiotics and others.  Write to me privately if you would like more

information.
