Guest guest
Ladies, I just want to encourage you all to go in for a physical. I hadn¹t had one for a few years (my doctor retired, then I got a new one and she moved). I decided to wait for my dear friend who is a nurse to pick a new doc for herself because she was looking, too. I thought I¹d just go to who she picked. Anyway, she couldn¹t decide, and finally my husband talked me into going to his doc. So I went to my husband¹s doctor and found out I¹ve been anemic for probably several years. I had been so fatigued, having dizzy spells, forgetful, short of breath, had insomnia... when I later looked up the symptoms, I was a textbook case of anemia. I feel so much better now that the iron has kicked in! And guess what... when I told my friend the nurse, she finally picked a doc and went in and guess what... she was even more anemic than I was! We talked yesterday about how we let this happen to us. As parents, we knew we would be tired, but it all happened gradually... and we had forgotten what it was like to feel better. Since none of the symptoms were taking us out of commission, we just kept going. Even when I went to the doctor and told him my symptoms, I didn¹t connect them and thought they wouldn¹t lead to anything. So anyway, moms, please make sure you have a physical... we¹re probably at a higher risk for anemia since our kids have that tendency. We get so busy taking care of our kids that it¹s easy to let our own health care slide. We need to take care of our own basic needs to be at our best to attend to the needs of our kids. Caroline G. Guest guest
GREAT message! I want to add that it’s VERY important to not just accept what doctors tell you, as you probably already know from having an ill child. If something doesn’t feel right, get another doctor! If, for example, a prescription or protocol they give you creates new symptoms, they may have been treating you for the wrong thing in the first place, or the meds are making things worse.
