Guest guest
My daughter is 6, she was not a high functioning one at all, she is not recovered now, but she is much better after 1 year of treatment. She is a mix of things now, she still has stim behaviours, and is very repetitive in games and others; but she was non verbal and now she can speak any word that she wants, she is not making great phrases but improving every week. Last month she sorprised us, she has always loved the credit cards and other labels, once her father gave her a creditcard to play with, while we were buying a prescription in the drugstore, she went to the VISA machine and take away some money, we never expect her to memorize the codes and the procedures to take money from the machine. So, i think that the nids kids are not high functioning, but they turn very smart in time; i would never expet my girl to be as nice as she is now, despite she is not recovered yet. > > I have read of patients that have been recovered by Dr. G. However, they all seem to be high functioning in the first place. Are there any cases of a low functioning child being recovered by him, and, if so, how? I would really appreciate hearing back from anyone here with a low functioning child and learning from your experience. It's hard. My son did not go on a special diet and suddenly become better, there's been no response to anything at all. We are in the process of making an appointment with Dr. G. and would feel a whole lot better talking to someone about this. Thank you very much. >
Guest guest
I have three boys on the protocol. My middle has mild/moderate " A " word and would only communicate wants and needs, usually in one word or just by pointing. He's been with Dr. G for a year and a half and has made great progress. He is communicating more, especially spontaneously, with no prompting. Academically, he's improving constantly. Before Dr. G, it was definitely two steps forward and five back. Now, we are slowly but consistently moving forward. We are no where near where we need to be, but we are more confident every day that we're moving in the right direction. Guest guest
I love hearing these stories! My son has been with Dr. G for 4 years. He's doing fantastic! (Knock on wood). He went camping with my husband this weekend, and when I asked him his favorite part, he said, " I got to go with dad. " Awwww! He also tells me, " I love you. " He is not all the way recovered yet, but I know he will. Kristy From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Robyn & Greg Coggins Sent: Monday, October 26, 2009 8:11 PM Subject: Re: Re: Recovery Possible? Guest guest
My son will see Dr. G for the first time in two weeks. We have been seeing a DAN doctor for 1 1/2, but she does not address viruses. Since our son was born with a congenital virus, we feel this is a big miss so we are going to see Dr. Goldberg. If anyone has any advice for a first appointment especially since we're flying from Louisiana, please let me know. Also, is there somewhere you can go to read recovery stories by Dr. G? It's been great reading through your stories of improvement and the path to recovery- gives me much hope! Guest guest
For those who are seeing results with , would you please list what interventions have been the most helpful? I am still trying to discern the difference between and DAN as far as the different therapies go. Thank you. > > > > I have read of patients that have been recovered by Dr. G. Guest guest
Hi Colleen, My son has been with Dr. G since he was 3, for the last 4 years. I'm so grateful for how far he has come. He used to be sick ALL THE TIME, but he's relatively healthy, bright, sharp, alert. His biggest challenge is still language and social. He's fully included in 2nd grade (included since K), and this year, his aide is more shadow than 1:1. He's not recovered yet, but I know he will. Guest guest
The best intervention for us was an antiviral. My most severely affected son started on Valtrex and then we switched him to Famvir. Once the virus was under control, we were able to completely stop seizure meds and his Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome (another neuro condition) vanished. This was after two years of monthly vomiting episodes preceded and followed by severe migraine headaches. He was totally out of commission for 10 days out of every month. Stress also triggered additional episodes. For Noah, one single SSRI didn't show much improvement. Now, we use a combination of three SSRIs in very low doses and he's doing great. He's communicating more and moving ahead academically. In February he will be on the protocol for two years. Now he is consistently moving forward and we don't see any periods of regression like we used to. I hope this helps.
