Guest guest
, my daughter has similar challenges to yours. We are using and seeing an Environmental Allergist and I am seeing great improvements in her ability to function around such chemicals in a limited amount which is an improvement from before. Since begining treatment my daughter has made huge gains. Finding a doctor that treats chemical sensitivities is not easy and finding a good one maybe even more difficult. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to talk. I will send you my phone number of the list if you are interested. You said you " can't tolerate anything but purely natural cleaning products " , does this mean you react physically? I can't tolerate perfumes, my stomach gets upset. Guest guest
In addition to many of the products uses/recommends, I have found an all natural all purpose cleaner at Costco and also they have two types of laundry detergents that we've been using.neither aggravates my allergies. Kristy From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Javan Sent: Friday, September 25, 2009 10:30 AM Subject: Mounting research is finding a VERY strong link to Autism..... OK- Let's see I'll try responding to all the questions and comments. The products I use and the places I get them are: If you know what 'Trader Joe's' is, and know where one is, they sell a green 'all purpose' spray natural cleaner that works fairly well and isn't very expensive and I have no reaction to it at all. They also sell shampoos and conditioners, as well as other bath products and they seem to all work well for me. The other place I go to is 'Lowes' hardware store believe it or not- in their cleaning chemical section they have a few cleaners I can tolerate... Made by 'greenology' called 'Organic bathroom cleaner' that is antimicrobial. The bathroom cleaner and the all purpose cleaner they have are the same chemicals, lol so either one is good. Another at Lowes are a couple of the bathroom products made by 'Method' in a light baby blue bottles for toilet and a sink cleaning product... HOWEVER- although 'Method' claims to be a natural cleaning brand there are several products they have that I can't tolerate- and there are doubts that ALL their products are as all natural as they claim. You can also use a scrub brush and mix baking soda, white vinegar, and believe it or not 'Oxi-clean laundry cleaner'. I can totally tolerate Oxi-clean powder you scoop because it is actually all natural... However not all their products I can tolerate and are all natural, just the laundry product with the scooper- their are also generic brands that have the same ingredients but are less expensive. For the automatic dish washing machine I use 'Seventh Generation' lemon cleaner... For hand soap and for washing the dishes by hand I use the brand 'Earth Friendly Products'- which comes in pear, almond, grapefruit, etc. I also have to use all natural lotions, I have found 'Nature's Gate' to be pretty good and well priced. Some of these things you can find at a health food store or find on www.Vitacost.com. I want to mention too that these products can be used to clean the floor as well. That is what I have to do. For nice fragrances in the home or on clothes I have to use all natural essential oils... I often use Cinnamon leaf because it has a nice smell, and I don't really mind if I smell like a girl as long as it means I can tolerate it well and not feel awful! Bottom line- if it is synthetic I generally cannot tolerate it... even things I wouldn't have previously suspected I've realized cause problems for me. An example would be I have to put the shoes in another room I don't go into because of the typical strong rubber odor/fumes, and newly replaced fiberglass screens are a problem as well. Typical hairspray, mousse, newspapers, cardboard, (although made from trees both use chemicals in manufacturing them), etc. Over time as the body begins to heal from them a person is less likely to react to them- and symptoms improve but it can take time! Although I've had to make some modifications to it to make it work more effectively. 1-However use 1 bar of IVORY soap, non-scented. 2-AND use 2 cups of Borax and Washing Soda instead of 1 1/2 since it makes it more effective. 3-ALSO- when use it to wash your clothes add 1 scoop of Oxi-clean powder as well... and if you want you can use 1 cup of white vinegar. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/yt-Al4EK59ta9A/how_to_make_homemade_laundry_de tergent/ The physical effects I experience when I am exposed to chemicals are -fatigue, -problems with my memory, concentration, focus, thinking... -I ache in my spine and back, sometimes get headache, -I get depressed, anxious, even rageful, angry and agitated, for no reason- I just feel rage shoot up in my body within a short amount of time. -I feel dizzy, light headed... -my blood pressure is often low. -I have been tested for having low Natural Killer cell function. -I can make marks on my skin, such as my stomach, inner arms, etc., if I just use a blunt object and push and drag across my skin without actually scratching myself. Guest guest
Hi Kristy- thanks for the input. I did a little research and was looking for the 'all purpose' cleaner you found/use at COSTCO, and the only one I could find online was the 'SIMPLE GREEN' all purpose cleaner- which I wanted to say a few things about, but first. I've had the NeuroSPECT scan done at UCLA- You can actually see pictures of 'my' brain and results on this web site where I posted them. http://www.ei-resource.org/myblog/SPECT-Scan-of-Multiple-Chemical-Sensitivity-MC\ S-Patient-Brain.html I had the scan done back in 2006, and have been working on treatment, first with Dr. Goldberg, then with Dr. ever since. I just want to put out examples that I have had tests, brain scans, loads of blood work and drug and nutrition treatment for a few yaers... I don't know a whole lot about your difficulties and such- and I'd like to learn more. After getting my NeuroSPECT scan done I was told I have the same scans and problems they find in Autistic patients. After doing a lot of research and work with doctors I've come to find out that my condition seems to 'mostly' be driven by diet and ESPECIALLY chemicals, fumes, pollution, smog, etc. When you come into contact with breathing in fumes of different kinds, perfume, diesel exhaust, regular fabric softener, paint, glue, etc., etc., etc.- Do you find yourself having any melt-downs or extreme crying spells, or totally uncontrollable flashes of anger and rage? I'm just trying to get an idea as to how severe the problems you deal with are. I am not sure if you were talking about the 'SIMPLE GREEN' all purpose cleaner or not... but I have tried using the 'SIMPLE GREEN' and I can honestly say it makes my condition much worse... I cannot tolerate it whatsoever. I know it claims to be natural and biodegradable, but I find that it effects me just as much if not more than regular cleaner. I have total and utter meltdowns using it... I find myself incredibly depressed, very OCD, unable to think clearly, very agitated, and as extreme as it sounds, sometimes suicidal... it is THAT painful on many levels. There are strong links of chemicals and environmental pollution playing a part in Autism as it turns out. Since I have the blood work similar to other patients, the SPECT brain scans, many of the same problems, and react to the same food- I am trying to provide somewhat of an adult perspective as to how many of these autistic children likely feel- and MORE importantly, what will likely work for them as well. An adult guinea pig in a way... someone that can provide feedback as to how they are feeling, what this 'Neuro-immune' disorder feels like and what works and doesn't work for me. Unfortunately there are a lot of products and things out there that 'claim' to be all natural, and 'green,' but really are not, or are grossly exaggerated. I would just love to help a lot of the mothers get the chemicals out of their children's lives to help them improve. Unfortunately it is very difficult to always know what is environmentally 'legit' and what isn't. Since many of the children cannot entirely give proper feedback it can be very difficult to figure out what is working and what is not. If there is something I can gain from having to deal with this illness it is the knowledge I've gained to help others not suffer like I've had to suffer. In no sense of the imagination do I intend to come off offensive with your Kristy- especially considering I don't now how severe your condition is, but while a product might not cause a person to have a dermatological reaction, or Histamine-1, anti-body allergic response on the outter portion of their body, that however doesn't necessarily mean it does NOT also cause Neuro-inflammation in the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system)- of a documented Neuro-immune sick patient. It is an easy mistake for many to make since many consider it to be one and the same... The immune response has several layers and the immune response on the skin, throat, and airways is vastly different than the one in the brain and central nervous system. A 'typical' allergic reaction involves Mast cells releasing histamine, while an immune response in the central nervous system involves glial cells that release pro-inflammatory cytokines causing inflammation and slight swelling and brain dysfunction as a result. So in essence I am trying to put together a list of things I have found to be Neuro-Immune NEUTRAL... and not adding to the problem. I would love to learn more about your symptoms and trouble in detail Kristy. Thanks so much! - > > > > Hi Javan, > > > > Can you tell me how you " feel " or react to these chemicals? Guest guest
Sheri, Does do extracts for soy? Or foods for that matter? We are doing them and they help ALOT. But I am still wondering I should still cut out soy altogether. Also, are you doing histamine and serotonin? Your daughter is doing so well, and we are still working out the " bugs " with mine... Also, if you want some good shampoos and conditioners without essential oils and safe for chemically sensitive people(really really hard to find!) we use www.magickbotanicals.com. Awesome products! - > > > > > > > > Hi Javan, > > > > > > > > Can you tell me how you " feel " or react to these chemicals? Guest guest
Oh OK. That is great. Yeah I've had argued with family members over the Simple Green- them telling me it shouldn't bother me because it is all natural. It took me a long time to convince them it was making me VERY ill! Thanks so much for your input Kristy. Do you mind telling me what type of reactions you experience, and do you have a child with Autism? - > > > > > > Hi Javan, > > > > > > Can you tell me how you " feel " or react to these chemicals? Guest guest
Hey Sheri- I can't tell you how relieved I am knowing that I'm not the only one (not that I want anyone else to suffer) but that It does seem as though we are onto something that is commonly overlooked. I no longer talk with Dr. Goldberg, but are these things brought to his attention? It seems like this is a really large piece of the puzzle that is not being addressed- which is at the peril of ourselves and the children. I wish someone would bring this to Dr. Goldberg's attention if he is not aware of it already. REMEMBER it is TWO pages- lol the first time I read it I didn't realize there were more than one page. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=autism-rise-driven-by-environme\ nt > > > > > > > > Hi Javan, > > > > > > > > Can you tell me how you " feel " or react to these chemicals? Guest guest
Would someone mind explaining to me what the histamine and serotonin is supposed to do- or how it works? I've never heard of this treatment and I'm interested to learn more. Also about the drops or doses to help get over allergies? I've heard bits and pieces of information in the past but no one actually explain to me what it all is and does. Guest guest
Oh Kristy I'm sorry to hear about that. But I am also glad you too are finding things that work for you... and I have found the same to be true for me also, the more i avoid things that bother me the easier time I have identifying the items I can tolerate. BTW- do you know the exact name of those products you were talking about at COSTCO? I might check them out myself.
