Guest guest
Hi , I have been using a similar product (Valcyclovir or Valtrex) since 2001. My neurologist at that time tested me for Rubella, Herpes Simplex, Cytomegalovirus, and Epstein-Baar. I had elevated titers for all of those. He also thought I might have a virus infection in my heart. So he prescribed Valtrex 500 mg twice a day. I have never had any side effects from the medication. If I try to stop using it, very painful mouth sores and inflammation return. So I don't think it has cured anything, but it does seem effective at controlling the opportunistic viruses. I found it interesting that Sidney Baker, in his talk at the Boston DAN conference, gave a case history where Acyclovir alone corrected methylation/sulfation problems. He said that Acyclovir reduces adenosine. (About 19 minutes into his talk.) Hope this helps. Vickie > > Hi All > Acyclovir has been used in autism. Has anyone used it lokgterm for > CFS. What for? Guest guest
Hi in Oz, I've been taking valaciclovir or Valtrex for over 6 months. I started on one 500mg tablet per day.Increased it to two per day after a few months. I decided to trial it due to my never ending cycle of sore throats, swollen glands, headaches, nausea, sore stiff neck and back. Pretty much viral flu like symptoms. Unfortunately I can't say it's made an ounce of difference. I have noticed that I never quite get cold sores any more. They almost happen but I make sure I take my Valtrex so they don't get full blown. This is nice as I have a couple of scars on my lips from past nasty cold sores. However I was hoping for a more significant improvement with my horrid flu symptoms. Guest guest
Hi, . If you could get your glutathione level up to normal, I don't think you would have cold sores. I think you would have a lot of other benefits as well. Here's an abstract about glutathione stopping herpes simplex type 1 viruses, the producers of cold sores: Antiviral Res. 1995 Jun;27(3):237-53. Evidence for antiviral activity of glutathione: in vitro inhibition of herpes simplex virus type 1 replication. Palamara AT, Perno CF, Ciriolo MR, Dini L, Balestra E, D'Agostini C, Di Francesco P, Favalli C, Rotilio G, Garaci E. Department of Experimental Medicine and Biochemical Sciences, University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy. The role of glutathione (GSH) in the in vitro infection and replication of human herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) was investigated. Intracellular endogenous GSH levels dramatically decreased in the first 24 h after virus adsorption, starting immediately after virus challenge. The addition of exogenous GSH was not only able to restore its intracellular levels almost up to those found in uninfected cells, but also to inhibit > 99% the replication of HSV-1. This inhibition was concentration-dependent, not related to toxic effects on host cells and also maintained if the exogenous GSH was added as late as 24 h after virus challenge, i.e. when virus infection was fully established. Electron microscopic examination of HSV-1-infected cells showed that GSH dramatically reduced the number of extracellular and intracytoplasmic virus particles, whereas some complete nucleocapsids were still detected within the nuclei of GSH- treated cells. Consistent with this observation, immunoblot analysis showed that the expression of HSV-1-glycoprotein B, crucial for the release and the infectivity of virus particles, was significantly decreased. Data suggest that exogenous GSH inhibits the replication of HSV-1 by interfering with very late stages of the virus life cycle, without affecting cellular metabolism. PMID: 8540746 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE] So, how do you get your glutathione up? I think you might be a candidate for the DAN! autism treatments that we've been discussing recently on the list: B6 with P5P and magnesium, followed by adding taurine, followed by adding methyl B12, followed by adding folinic acid, followed by adding trimethylglycine, followed by adding dimethylglycine if successive things seem to be needed. Guest guest
Valtrex breaks down into acyclovir in the body. You may have to use a bit more to get the same results as Valtex (so is easier on liver in that respect) but lots of data shows no difference beteen the two on viral infection. It has been used for a long time to treat viral (herpes) encephelitis so it must cross blood brain barrier. > > My insurance will cover acyclovir, not Valtrex. Guest guest
Hi , I have no idea about the use of acyclovir, but I use a really cool healing modality to get rid of viruses, also the ones that want to stay in your body like herpes family viruses. This modality also can be used for ruling out allergies or reactions to meds. I f you are interested go to www.wayimmune.org Under step !: Cure there's " join the Cure Drive " . When you've joined the cure drive ( you'll need a ID to do so) look into the links section for a video or audio manual to learn this way of curing/healing yourself. I use this whenever I have a flu coming down. It takes some practivce but it's working! greetings, Esther Stidolph schreef: >I’d appreciate some help please. Guest guest
mjh, The first year I got diagnosed, about 90? I was very very sick, very depleted, and with constant viral type symptoms. I had had a waxing and waning daily severe sore throat for several years. I was tested for EBV and HHV6, but do not remember the results. Based on his exam or the tests, and the research, my doctor put me on a strong dose of Acylovir. Something like 5 pills a day, and it seemed like a long time, but was probably about 6 weeks. Because I remained very ill, I did not recognise the significance at the time. But, my horrible daily sore throats completely went away! It's possible that that also began the many years that I did not catch any common viruses going around. That took me awhile to notice, being as overwhelmed with all the other symptoms and severely cognitively impaired. I cannot recall if the cognitive part changed with Acyclovir. I had fewer mishaps (like a fire and a wreck), but don't know if that was improvement or just recognition and coping skills. I was so devestated by what was happening...constellation of symptoms, scalding nerve pain, mostly bedridden, and not fully knowledgable about my disease, that at the time, I thought the treatment was a failure, since it did not make me well. But, looking back now, and remembering the Hell of the throat/immune thing, I'd say it actually was a miracle . Guest guest
I have never heard of such high doses of acyclovir. Amy: I have never heard of such low doses of acyclovir. I thought I was on a high dose (1200mg/day). Various doc including neurologist and lately an infectious disease doctor are not happy that I am on 1200mg. The max they prefer (seems unanimous) is 800mg per day. I get too many breakthroughs at 800mg. I only get a breakthrough (fever, sore throat, etc) when I really overdo physically at the 1200 level. My kidneys/liver are checked every 6 months. The infectious disease doc wanted to switch me to Valtrex at 500mg per day which I was okay with but haven't made the switch yet. I prefer Valtrex as there is a difference btw the two. It was an insurance thing that made me start on acyclovir. I have been on 1200mg for about 4 years now - not putting it in remission just keeping the symptoms at bay. Just went through getting off all of my med in order to have baseline testing done. This time, I went 1 week and a half, before the symptoms started back up again. Usually it is four days. I am really surprised at the extremely high dose (and Amy's low dose) and would get a second opinion or do some research. Marti > > Hi Peg.
