Guest guest
Thank you for that post. That's one of the examples of why Dr G says that SSRIs aren't being prescribed for behavior - they are 'neuroprotective'. ________________________________ From: Neno/Natasa <neno@...> " " < > Sent: Thu, October 15, 2009 6:21:13 PM Subject: Serotonin reuptake inhibitors prevent replication of retroviruses in CNS serotonine reuptake inhibitors prevent replication of retroviruses in the CNS http://www.springerlink.com/content/64673j165353u750/
Guest guest
All SSRIs prevent replication of retroviruses? That seems far-reaching to me when there are only 3 known retroviruses, and 1 of those was just recently 'discovered'. Guest guest
What are Serotonin reuptake inhibitors? Could they help our children if they have the MXRV retrovirus? What about the antivirul treatment we are already giving - do yo9u think this would help? > > > > > > serotonine reuptake inhibitors prevent replication of retroviruses in the > CNS > > http://www.springerlink.com/content/64673j165353u750/ > > ------ End of Forwarded Message >

Guest guest
SSRI's are the typical anti-depresants like Prozac, there are quite a few different ones. 2009/10/16 jillsouthgate <southgatejill@...> What are Serotonin reuptake inhibitors? Guest guest
There are multiple neuroprotective mechanisms of SSRIs associated with these neuro diseases - not just preventing replication of viruses - they should be in the files on the group page. Dr Goldberg talked somewhere about SPECT scans showing that around the age of 10 or so that some kids can develop 'scaling' on the scans, but that the children that had been on SSRIs did not have that same finding. Don't remember the details, just the gist. ________________________________ From: Neno/Natasa <neno@...> Sent: Fri, October 16, 2009 2:20:16 AM Subject: Re: Serotonin reuptake inhibitors prevent replication of retroviruses in CNS > > there are thousands of retroviruses > > > > > All SSRIs prevent replication of retroviruses? Guest guest
Also, with the number of people infected with HIV, I'm sure there's ample opportunity to study the neurprotective nature of SSRIs. Apparently, they are commonly prescribed to HIV infected individuals.
