Guest guest
have you eliminated fluoride/ tried the TWO seleniums? what form and how much magnesium is being given? a bad expereince with prozac is indicative of heavy metals in the brain. > Hi, I was wondering if anyone on this list had experience with the > medication Tenex. Guest guest
Thanks for your input. But I was wondering if maybe she was on Cloziril? There are so many drugs with similar names, Tenex and Clonipine are for hypertension. Thanks again, --Lynne
Guest guest
> I see that Tenex is an antihypertensive but I think I recall seeing some studies where this med was given to ADHD kids Thanks for your input. I went to a presentation last year regarding meds and the doctors said that some kids with ASD as well as ADHD respond to the hypertension drugs. I also dropped alot of supplements when my son had all his problems last spring, and slowly am working them back in one by one. My son tends to do okay with something for a while and then have a reaction later so I have to move very slowly. His facial tics are gone now but he does clear his throat constantly and makes animal noises, but I think this is more a stim. Thanks again, --Lynne
Guest guest
Thanks , he does not use flouride toothpaste or drink tap water. Back in the spring he had several months of extreme aggression, anxiety, and impulsiveness, really out of control. I cut our most supplements then and am slowly adding them back in. I have to go very slowly because he tends to seem fine and then have a reaction a week or two later. Right now I am treating for yeast and my next addition is the seleniums, thank you for the info about that. I do feel he is heavy metal toxic and I am trying to learn all the ways I can help him. I made this appointment with the neuro then and had to wait four months to see him. Basically it was to see what he might suggest in case things get out of control again. I am not starting the meds until I first try working the supplements back in. Thanks again for your input, --Lynne
Guest guest
Thanks Dana, I do think he has a yeast issue and I am trying to address that now, to see if that helps these symptoms. Actually lately he has been doing great, but school is where most of his problems occur (I am also considering homeschooling, so I have appreciated the recent thread). I'm not starting the med yet, still looking at options. Thanks again for your input, --Lynne

This is also yeast for my same son who has other facial tics when he gets yeast. You are wise to consider a yeast problem. Dana
Guest guest
Hi Kim, My 3 year old is on tenex (.5 mg am and .5 mg pm) and I am not a med person either. has been a bit calmer (at times :-) ) and has been able to focus and attend a bit more. It did not change his personality - he is still very active but it does seem to take a slight edge off. Our dr rx-ed it for anxeity. This is one of the drugs on the protocol so I felt pretty safe using it and it's pretty low risk. Jenn mykidsmom47201 <kjwolford@...> wrote: Our pediatrician has suggested we use this hypertensive on our son to help with attention, anxiety, obsessions....Anyone have experience with it? We have never used any other meds before and he felt this one was the best one to start with to see how he responded. Guest guest
Hey, Kristy. I'm not sure about impulse control, but it is used for hyperactivity. Both Elijah and Noah take it and it works well. Robyn ________________________________ From: Kristy Nardini <knardini@...> Sent: Fri, February 12, 2010 10:57:52 AM Subject: OT - Tenex Hi! Has anyone heard of Tenex being used for children with special needs to help with impulse control? My friend’s 7 y.o. daughter has mental retardation (not or anything like that), and she is very, very impulsive. Would Tenex ever be used in that situation? Guest guest
Have you ever heard of sleepiness (daytime) associated with Tenex? Is it a nightime only or daytime drug? Thanks. Guest guest
We are using it as a daytime only med - every 4 hours - 8am -12 & 4pm - We started with a very low dose and have only increased slightly for the 8 and 12 doses - drowsiness/sleepiness would mean too high of a dose - or just not a good match. Guest guest
Yes, it makes one of my boys sleepy if he takes it in the morning - but does not on my other son. Low dose in the am may help. The problem could go away in a couple of weeks. If you're also using an SSRI, sometimes the sleepiness goes away after an increase in the SSRI, too. If it just doesn't work out and you stop it, months down the road it's possible to try again and not have the symptom anymore. It is usually taken morning and night. Guest guest
My son gets two doses of Tenex a day, a.m. and p.m. It can make them sleepy if too much is taken. Guest guest
Noah experiences some sleepiness if we give him an entire 1mg tablet in the a.m. His hyperactivity has decreased a lot since starting with Dr. G, so he only needs 1/2 in the a.m. and 1/2 in the p.m. HTH, Robyn ________________________________ From: <thecolemans4@...> Sent: Fri, February 12, 2010 7:56:29 PM Subject: Re: OT - Tenex Yes, it makes one of my boys sleepy if he takes it in the morning - but does not on my other son. Guest guest
Does Tenex cause an upset stomache? We just started and my son keeps saying his tummy hurts. Colleen Sent from my iPhone
