Guest guest
Dr. Goldberg is also using now Imunovir which is an immunodulating agent with antiviral properties. It looks like it has been quite effective in many children. Below is some information about Imunovir. Regards, JR http://www.rivexpharma.com/products_imunovir.html Boost your immune system. Recently, it seems that the Valtrex isn't as effective so we are considering asking his current doctor to have him try a new anti-viral. I'm curious to know which anti-viral medications Dr. G is using these days. I hear talk of Imunovir. Is he still using Famvir as well? Any others? Guest guest
Immunovir is not an antiviral it is a immune modulator and increases NK cell counts. We are on Acyclovir. Guest guest
Bill, Imunovir is prescribed in other countries as a treatment for viral infections.  Please read the link from the distributor in Canada. Guest guest
Immunivor is used to treat viral infects but as I understand it, the medications grouped as antivirals are replicator inhibitors. They prevent viruses from reproducing themselves. Immunovir is very different. It addresses the T2 shift. (see attached) Immunivor modulates the immune system to allow an increase if the T cell count is low and decrease where the Tcell count is high. The viruses themselves are controlled by the child's own, now functioning, immune system. It should not be the only or primary medication in that this process may take months or longer. If you stop Valtrex and then start immunovir you probably will not be controlling a chronic viral infection any time soon. Guest guest
Gayln Immunivor is not approved by the FDA/CDC so it is only available outside the US. I get it from Pharmex of Canada. Additionally it is not covered by insurance - again FDA related. It costs a couple hundred + a month. Guest guest
Dear Bill, This is a good topic, because many people frequently asks how medications work and there is not one good answer that is easy to find. In my previous post I said that Imunovir is an immunodulating agent with antiviral properties. That is exactly what you are saying, but in terms that is easier for most parents to understand. I think we need to upload a document to the group with a detailed explanation of the protocol and an explanation of how these medications work. Or even, post it in the nids.net website. ---My previous post--- Dr. Goldberg is also using now Imunovir which is an immunodulating agent with antiviral properties. Guest guest
Hey Gaylen, He still primarily uses Valtrex & Famvir, but if after a year + he isn't seeing the results he wants, he may try the one that comes in liquid to get a very accurate dose but has to be given 5 times a day... it seems like it was acyclovir but I could be wrong. I think acyclovir was one he previously refused to use - so I'd hope someone else will confirm or correct that. He's also now using Immunovir (Bill has good details in some previous posts if you search his w/immunovir as the topic) for kids with low natural killer cells. It raises NKs (takes minimum of 6 months to start getting results, and has to have doses 'pulsed' - varied) and has immune modulating properties. You can google Klimas's talking about it recently to some of her CFS patients, or the link may be in the posts too.
