Guest guest
Hi Jo, I don't think, based on what I know so far, that you can build up a 'tolerance' so to speak for hormones. We do know though that all hormones affect all other hormones so when you're messing around with one, you sort of mess around with all of them...so to speak. Remember that most doctors look at blood tests and tell you you are low or high or normal relative to what a person your age should have if you weren't replacing your hormones. Not sure why you mean by 'low' with P. You say you 'sort of' did the WP. What does that mean? You either followed it or you didn't. What DID you doNot sure you've been following my progress with Dr. Schwarzbein here in Santa Barbara but she is titrating me off the WP very slowly...one line per month. My body goes into shock about 2-4 days after we lower the E every time. I'm currently on a steady dosing of 3 lines morning and night and she has me on two .1 Vivelle dot patches so that I don't ever have nothing in my system. If you are using creams or gels, you are getting a bolus affect (big) of E after you take it and then it tapers until you put it on again. Dr. S hasn't had any success with creams (she's been at this over 25 years) and pretty much sticks to the patches eventually. As far as the P is concerned, I am using 10 mg morning and night as a vaginal suppository, days 18-28 this month (she moved me from day 15-28 which is classic WP). Last month I was having a lot of nerve reactions so she had me stop P after 10 days of it and one day after that I had a period which is exactly what 'should' happen. 15 mg of E is way too much. That's higher than the peak on the standard WP. Remember, we don't replace hormones so we feel better necessarily as the first affect (hang with me here). Replace them to balance the system, which takes P in the right dosage delivered in a bioequivalent manner (days 18-28ish) so that we cycle like we did when we were younger. You have to balance all of the hormones at the same time and messing around them without a great endocrinologist is like playing with fire. Not sure if that helps. Personally I kind feel like a test animal in all this but right now I've put my hormones in Dr. S hands and we'll see where we go from here. beth
Guest guest
I am repeatedly told that my P is very low. It runs about .15, which IS very low on the hormone scale, even for my age (59). I can tell when it rises, as it does sometimes, even though I don't supplement P. When it does, I get PMS symptoms, and I don't like it! Guest guest
If your Estrogen spikes, your Sex Hormone Binding Globulin will rise, and go after Estrogen (bind it and makes it biologically unavailable.) That's why only gradual increases are advised. K Re: develping tolerance to estrogen Hi Jo, I don't think, based on what I know so far, that you can build up a 'tolerance' so to speak for hormones. Guest guest
Hi beth Thanks for your reply When I say I was on the WP, it's not entirely true. That's what my doctor prescribed, but I could never tolerate the high doses of progesterone. I did the estrogen part, but could only tolerate up to 80mg of transdemal P before having massive abdomnal migraines that saw me end up in hosp. I have since shown my doctor this group and she agrees with me tha tI should not do anything like the WP, especially now as migraines have become part of my everyday life. Since writing you last I have got them under control with a climera patch, yay! So glad i tried that. I have a few new questions if that is okay. Do you know what the symptoms of too much estrogen are? Im taking 200mg oral prgesterone days 14 - 28, but I think that I might be getting headaches from that. I also have a lovely new rash on my face. It seems to have started since I started the P. I think it is Keratosis Polaris and from my browsing on the web lots of women get it after giving birth. So Im not sure if it could be from too much progesterone or too much estrogen because Ive never had it before. Or it could be from the climera patch?? I dont know, but I wish it would go! Anyway, better go get the groceries:) thanks Jo > > Hi Jo, > > I don't think, based on what I know so far, that you can build up a > 'tolerance' so to speak for hormones. Guest guest
I can't tolerate 100mg of Prometrium for 10 days. Too much for me. You are doing 200. Too much E? I recently discovered that I clench my teeth when I have too much E. I associate too much P with low immune, depression, darkened skin, acne, deepened voice, yeast infections, lung infections, thickened waist.... that's an off hand quick list. I think there is a much longer list on the website. Laurel > Hi beth > > Thanks for your reply > > When I say I was on the WP, it's not entirely true. Guest guest
Hmm, I really dont know what to do from here. Talking to my doctor tonight, but i suspect she wont have any ideas about this rash. I have noticed that it is worse on the left side of my face, and Ive been using the patches on the left side of my abdomin (I have an ileostomy on the right). I never got a rash when my progesterone was really high. And I dont think Ive ever had high estrogen befor, so that might be hy this rash is a new thing to go along with having high estrogen for the first time. Guess I might need some blood tests:) Also, because lots of women who breastfeed after pregnancy get this rash, can anyone tell me: is your estrogen high when you are breastfeeding (because you can often have anovulatory cycles) or is your progesterone high because you've just been pregnant. Just trying to be a detective. I dont think my estrogen is low. Historically when it's low I get hot flashes, itchy itch skin, foggy head and migraines. This has been the first three weeks for a very long time when Ive felt this good apart from the rash! Thanks Jo > >> > >> Hi Jo, > >> > >> I don't think, based on what I know so far, that you can build up a > >> 'tolerance' so to speak for hormones.
