Guest guest
I posted last week where I buy my estradiol. However, since your cancer has now become invasive, I really think you need to deal with that. I would not, for a minute, hang onto a breast where cancer has become invasive. I'd also do it ASAP before it gets in your lymph nodes or bloodstream. If I had ER/PR invasive BC, I would not be using any E or P. I'd surely like to see those studies that say that 17-beta estradiol is good for breast cancer. Those studies from the WHI were about the incidence of BC while using Premarin. They had nothing to support using estrogen with an invasive ER/PR cancer. This is all about how much risk you're willing to take. These are my risks with ER/PR: Lumpectomy + radiation, with estrogen use after: 38% chance of relapse Bilateral mastectomy with no estrogen use after: 2% chance of relapse Bilateral mastectomy with estrogen use after: 3% chance of relapse. By " relapse " I mean breast cancer subsequently showing up somewhere in the body Val Follow-up on Introduction Thanks Ladies for the replies. My cancer was estrogen/progesterone positive in 2007. Arimidex was recommended that time but I had not taken it. The recent biopsy report does not state if it's estrogen positive or not. It says: " Invasive ductal carcinoma, no special type " . I find this really strange. Basically, I do not have enough info to decide on the type of surgery I should go for. Yes, I am aware of the WHI study on the beneficial effect of the Premarin only therapy. I still have my uterus, therefore, need to take some progesterone with the estrogel if I decide to stay with the hormones. If Estro-Rhythm is as good as they say, I would be really happy to try it. I never came across anybody who took Estro-rhythm. I guess it does not do too much for osteoporosis, brain functions and anti-aging in general. Might be good for flashes. Yes, you are right, the overdose of progesterone caused my symptoms and also killed my libido completely. When I was on Progesterone only, I was so numb, I could not feel anything from the waist down. It was brutal, yet the progesterone mania still is in its renaissance stage in Toronto. I still do not understand what is the science behind continuous combined BHRT where estrogen is given in homeopathic doses with high doses of progesterone. This is a practice followed by most doctors here. I read the books I mentioned, yet I do not remember the studies about the safety of 17 B estradiol. Anyway, I firmly believe that balanced hormones save lives. Do you think I could use the progesterone cream, I have, vaginally or use prometrium instead? I am going to contact Dr. Schwarzbein but I still need a doctor here. I doubt I find one, so I have to look into getting the hormones without prescription and go for blood tests to the Naturopathic Clinic. Costs $250 for estradiol and progesterone. How to find a Pharmacy where I can get these hormones without a prescription, I do not know. They probably exist somewhere, I saw on the net people talking about them, not mentioning the names and locations though. Guest guest
Hi Val, Thanks for your input. It makes sense what your are saying. It's hard to decide. I do not know the receptiveness of this recurrence. One thing is sure: I would never get a reconstruction surgery in Ontario if I did not submit myself whatever treatments the doctors decide as necessary for me. It could be chemo and the estrogen blocking pills. Sabri > > I posted last week where I buy my estradiol. Guest guest
Sabri, I had concurrent reconstruction with a fat transplant from my abdomen. Its called a DIEP. My breasts look pretty natural. Given that I have Lyme disease, I did not want anything foreign in my body that might cause a new immune reaction. I had a total choice of what to do and relied only on their expert opinion and my research. I got a couple of opinions. Ultimately, how I handled it was my choice. I can't believe it took you four months to get a biopsy after you'd already had cancer. How long before they get moving on treatment? Val Follow-up on Introduction > > Thanks Ladies for the replies. Guest guest
Val, They do not do the reconstruction concurrently here. The surgeon said may be 1 year after surgery. It took 4 months because of the " wonderful " health system in Ontario. The waiting time is ridiculously long for everything. We have shortages of doctors on every level. Perhaps, my family doctor played a role here, but I cannot find another one due to shortage of MD's. In one of your posts, you mentioned some numbness. Could you explore on that a bit please. I have numbness in my left arm due to lymphnode dissection in 2007. I am contemplating to opt out BHRT but I need to find something for my brain to function reasonably well. I was searching for some designer estrogen which would positively affect brain health. I am aware that research is going on, however, no product is available yet. Have you heard of Dr a Brinton in South California? A trial is underway there for an estrogen variant which is good for brain functions but does affect the breast or uterus. I also would like to find some natural remedies which can be applied locally to the breast to prevent inflammation and irregularities in tissue. Another thought: What is the difference between 17B and 17Alpha estradiol and how they work differently? Thanks. Sabri > > > > I posted last week where I buy my estradiol. Guest guest
I talked to my surgeon's nurse today. She said once you've had radiation, reconstruction does have to be put off, maybe a year. Nevertheless, four months for a biopsy for a cancer survivor is unconscionable. Do people in your community or province complain? The procedure I had is called DIEP flap. There are only about 80 DIEP surgeons in the U.S. and only two in Colorado. I had both of them as it takes two to do the surgery. Numbness. It comes from nerves being severed during surgery. While I had a fat transplant and my veins were reconnected, both in my breasts and abdomen, science, so far, has not provided for any nerve reconnection. One of my plastic surgeons is doing research into reconnecting nerves but it is not available anywhere as far as I know. I don't know the difference between 17-alpha and 17-beta. I wish you well in your search for something to relieve your symptoms. This is a tough time for you and my best wishes are with you.
