We've had this issue as well. How old is your son? Have you changed detergents

recently? This may sound silly but check the size of his underwear and make sure

it's not too tight. I would definitely recommend taking the urine to a lab to be

tested. You never know. If it's cloudy or unusually dark or appears to have

blood in it (can't always see the blood), it would be a UTI or a kidney

infection.

If all that checks out, it probably is yeast. You may want to try Kyodophilus

(sp?). Depending on his age, it might be a sudden " awareness " issue. We had this

problem with my son when he was eight.

HTH,

Robyn

Subject: penis discomfort

One more question. My son has been pushing on his penis area (with clothes on)

showing discomfort but I cannot tell why. He is on ketoconazole and I will take

his urine in to a clinic tomorrow to see if he has a UTI but it seems to come

and go which I find odd. He hasn't ever had a UTI before. I was just curious if

this could be more of a yeast issue.

Thanks

Kathy

Hi,

A couple of other things to add ...

If uncircumcised, there could be some mild adhesions where skin is not moving as

well.  That can cause discomfort.

The thing I would suggest is most likely is that the urine could be strong, and

if so, that burns or at least causes discomfort.  Not enough water intake, and

certain nutrients can both make urine cause discomfort that can last an hour or

more after going.

I'd watch to see if there is a correlation to when he goes (and the next couple

of hours).  See if the color is strong or if there is a strong odor.  If it is

too concentrated or smells strong or odd (I forget which nutrients can cause

it to smell funny - it can even smell just like bacon lol!), then it would be

pretty easy to resolve with more fluids.  Urine content can feel just like

having a uti or yeast infection.

Also, hormonal changes (and nizoral impacts hormones, postively for most of our

kids) could bring about new erections and this would grab his attention.  And

if he's uncircumcised and has a an adhesion, it would cause some discomfort too

until the erections help resolve the adhesions.

Hope that helps...

gosh - never thought I'd see myself discussing this topic on :-)

We've had this problem with my 14 yr old.

1. There are physical changes a-plenty happening. Sometimes things

rub. Sometimes things catch. We don't send him to school in sweat pants

(unless it's gym day) because the pants are a bit more flexable.

We use cargo pants, jeans . The teachers and psychiatrist says it's

a 'boy thing'

2. buy a larger size of underwear. My son is already in a men's medium (!!!)

with long leg (not the brief/jockey).

3. Increase his water intake. Certainly wouldn't hurt.
