Hello Laurel and group!I'm one of the newbies that just signed up with your group and have spent a lot of time listening to everyone and researching HRT. I'm still new to all this, went to my primary dr today and came home with a script for Estrace 1mg. I'm 50 and think I'm post menopausal, it's been many years that I've had the symptoms and lately the last couple of years I've had ALL the symptoms to the extreme!

My dr did bloodwork today so will know more. Unfortunately I don't feel like my dr is very informed on all this. She wanted to give me Premarin and when I said I prefer a Bioidentical and pulled out literature she about ran out of the room. Guess I'll be looking for a new dr.

Should I have asked the dr for any Progesterone or Testosterone? I really appreciate all the knowledge you all have, it's nice to know that there are others that understand and are going thru the same thing!

Thanks,

Update on me.

I've found I simply can't use much E anymore or I get a headache. This is terrific news as my goal has always been to use a very low dose of E. When I was trying to get off the WP my E does of the compounded E was up to 64mg a day. Awful. At the end of that summer I was about 25mg a day. Slowly over time I got it to about 14 - 16mg a day. Eventually down to 2 mg a day of estrogen in the sandrena packets. And now that is too much. I use about .333 mg BID now and some days not even that much. If I don't get any E it's not big deal. No ups and downs. No flashes. Easy easy.

I have altered my diet a lot since Jan and perhaps this has helped my endocrine system. ? Who knows. Just great to be able to be in more sane dosing ranges.

Laurel, Did you get follow up blood tests when you were taking higher doses of E? What made you feel awful? Usually, headaches are caused by LOW "E". When I first tried WP, I also got headaches in the 1st 2 wks..my E was raised, and they went away. Now, if my E drops too low, I get headaches. Receptors have to "wake up" for your body to use the E. I had the MOST problems with WP's "P"..put me in hormone-hell. I now use Prometrium for a week, and I get a normal 5 day bleed, and feel great. Have been on THIS protocol since the spring..and my bloodwork has been good. Again..I am NOT considered on the WP. EveryBODY is different..what works for me, might not work for you, or

anyone else. Stress will also make you "burn through" your hormones and they'd need to be readjusted.TerriTo: rhythmicliving Sent: Monday, November 7, 2011 11:35 AMSubject: The E gets lower and lower (-:

Oral estrogens are associated with an increase stroke list but that risk has not been found in transdermal estradiol. You need progesterone if you are no longer having periods. I was on 100 mg Prometrium all month. Not only did it not stop uterine growth (benign), it ran my blood glucose up to 140. Off of it, BG is down to 84.
