Guest guest
Hi Liz, I am going to try the gel to see what happens. I put some on this a.m. and will do the same this p.m. Well, the NP that I got the V.Dot from gave the samples to me to WEAN off estrogen. She's the one who relies solely on saliva testing and of course the results showed high estrogen and she panicked. I won't be seeing her anymore because I know that I should NOT wean off estrogen. This next doctor is the one who was okay with the '39' and it wasn't Dr. Gillespie. I had a convo with Dr. G before these results were even in. I think Dr. G feels that I won't absorb the gel well if the V.Dot isn't working well. The V. Dot might be effective for me if I had a doctor who was willing to prescribe what I need but right now I don't. I just happen to have these samples that I've been experimenting with. I have been using a 0.05 mg patch every day but that doesn't seem to be cutting it. Thanks so much for replying to me Liz! Laurie > >>>> > > > > >>>> > > > Hi...I feel like I'm going in circles. Guest guest
Sheree, Yes, changing it every day but I've run out so I started the gel yesterday and so far I feel okay. I dont feel worse so that's something, I think. Laurie > > >>>> > > > > > >>>> > > > Hi...I feel like I'm going in circles. Guest guest
No problem, Liz...lol! I was on testosterone and then when I saw Uzzi Reiss in February he told me to stop until I got my estrogen back up so I stopped it and haven't taken it since. Some doctors tell me to absolutely take it and others say don't take it. What to do, what to do...lol. I think Dr. Gillespie said not to take it too BUT I would have to go back and read my messages from her to verify. I feel okay on the gel so far. It's only been one day but I don't feel worse so I think that must be good! I feel like I'm on Toad's Wild Ride here...just like everyone else, I know. Even though you are making adjustments to your pellets are you still pretty happy with them overall? Laurie > >>>>>>>>> > >>>> > > > > >>>>>>>>> > >>>> > > > Hi...I feel like I'm going in circles. Guest guest
Liz, I'm so glad you found something you are happy with and hopefully with the adjustments those missing pieces will fall into place. The pellets are really appealling to me but I can't go to an out of network doctor at the moment. I will just have to put that on the side burner for now. Thanks to the heavens for options! I will re-consider the testosterone...thank you for putting that out there! Guest guest
Sheree, Not sure but I have read where some people do change them everyday and thought I would give it a try. If I'm going to do the patches I need ... a script first (lol) and someone to tell me how to best use them for ME. That's the tricky part it seems is finding a doc who believes that I may need more than the average Joe. How long do you think it takes to find out how well your body responds to a certain dosage with the patch? I don't think I was on them long enough to really know. This last doc I went to, the one who thinks the '39' is okay, told me on the phone that I should just stay on the 1.5mg patch (I told her my last doc prescribed that) so if she is willing to prescribe that much for every 3.5 days then maybe I can trial that for a good month and see how it goes. I am to see her on Monday. I didn't want to go back to her but if I do then I can at least get a script. That is good info about not removing the old ones right away when applying the new ones. Makes sense! Laurie > > > >>>> > > > > > > >>>> > > > Hi...I feel like I'm going in circles. Guest guest
Hi Sheree, I went to see Dr. Schwarzbein many moons ago when she was seeing patients. It's probably been about 12 years but at that time I wasn't going specifically for hormones. I really liked her and I have her books (I even bought her exercise DVD's), etc…Then she got too famous and expensive and I stopped seeing her. I did purchase her new Menopause kit and I have read through some of it but not as thoroughly as I should. I just have so much personal stress swirling around me in the last few months that I don't know if I'm coming or going. I'm so desperate to get my hormones at a decent level so that I can feel good yet manage what has been thrown my way. So, right now I just feel like I'm in survival mode. Get the estrogen script, get the estrogen up and balance as best as I can. In the meantime keep searching for the right doctor. Know what I mean? I think in your previous post you said you are on 4 patches a day. How long did it take for you and Dr. S to fine tune your dosage? So glad that you are feeling as well as you do. I have always had a real respect for Dr. S and I wish that she had a physicians directory or something on her website that listed other doctors who already subscribe to her methods. That might be useful for those of us who need to TRY and find someone in network. Funny, as I write this I see that `Menopause Minutes 6' just dropped into my email inbox. Lol… Thanks so much for the info Sheree! Really appreciate it! Laurie > > >>>>>>>>> > >>>> > > > > > >>>>>>>>> > >>>> > > > Hi...I feel like I'm going in circles. Guest guest
Laurie, If she at all listens to your symptoms, maybe you can document those. I find that I do not sleep well at all below a certain dosage of estrogen, yet it puts me at a higher level than my doc would like. I am not sure what the answer is, but I really like to sleep well. I change patches every day but leave the old one on for 2-3 days. Deb in MI > > > > Laurie, > > > > Are you sure you're supposed to change them everyday? Guest guest
Boy that Wiley protocol is something else. I never even heard of it until joining this group. I feel for you and the others who are trying to 'fix' that. What a long process. Sounds you like you are in excellent hands with Dr. S. I am sure you will make an informed decision when it comes to deciding whether or not to have a hysterectomy or not. Not an easy decision but interesting that her patients feel much better with the hysterectomy. I guess it makes it easier to dose the hormones because you don't know how much or when the ovaries are going to shoot out some hormones? I wonder how much the adrenal glands spit out plays into that? Hmmmm...I guess something to leave to the Dr. to worry about....lol Yes, it really is one day at a time....actually one moment at a time. lol... Thank you for the phone number. I believe I will call and see if they have a referral. I am in Southern CA so maybe that might make it easier to pull something out of them. I will pull out my menopuase kit materials this weekend and dig in . The menopause minutes on statins was a good one wasn't it? Wishing you continued success on your journey Laurie > > > >>>>>>>>> > >>>> > > > > > > >>>>>>>>> > >>>> > > > Hi...I feel like I'm going in circles. Guest guest
Hi Deb, Yes, I am the same way as my sleep is very much affected by lower estrogen levels. I also really notice a depression along with anxiety and sometimes a feeling of panic. Hot flashes too. Ugh. Curious as to what your estrogen level is that makes your Doc think it might be too high? What dosage of patch are you on? Do you think that you feel better on the patch than you did on other types of estrogen? Thank you! Laurie > > > > > > Laurie, > > > > > > Are you sure you're supposed to change them everyday? I wear 4 patches and > > > change them twice a week. Guest guest
Laurie, When my E2 level was 150, I didn't get the bleed. I think I must have high SHBG going on as well. It was 299 a couple of weeks ago, so I will be cutting my patches in half to see if I can bring it down. I am finding that I need a small bump at night to sleep better so maybe the lower dose plus the small patch right before bed. I do like the patch so much better than the cream. I haven't tried any other forms of it. My doc wanted me to add back Testos. and so I have, (I had dropped it since Dr. S says most don't need it). In those same labs I just got back, my total T is ..77 in the range that goes to .90, but my free Testos. is at the very bottom number of the range. I guess that means that all the testos. is converting to estradiol. Its all very confusing, espec. for those with multiple issues of adrenal fatigue and thryoid going on as well. Guest guest
Hi Deb, My SHBG is high too. Last couple of checks it was mid 200's which doesn't help matters..lol. So your higher estrogen level corresponds to when you started supplementing testosterone again? Interesting. Are you going to discontinue it? I like the ease of the patch compared to the creams. Although the gel dries really quickly which is nice. I see my doctor of the moment tomorrow so I think I'm going to continue with the patch unless she has a more appealing idea. I doubt she will though since she thinks my level of 39 is fine..lol. Looking back over my notes I think I made too many quick changes with the patch and never gave one dose enough time. I think in my desperation I was jumping the gun. So, may just stick with 1 dose for a set period of time and see what happens...and hope for the best! Thanks for sharing your experiences Laurie > > > > > > > > > > Laurie, > > > > > > > > > > Are you sure you're supposed to change them everyday? Guest guest
Hi, Sheree - ....two for ya... ~~~ How in the world do you deal with FOUR patches? I am intellectually All About avoiding-the-first-pass-through-the-liver and all, but I couldn't even stand dealing with ONE patch at a time...peeling off and needing Spendy Replacement...or if not peeling off, then leaving gummy circular residue in various places which would last for days and days, looking like I'd been attacked by a sucker-mouthed sea-serpent-or-somethin'... ~~~ Re: Opinion on Hys...I had one almost four years ago, after bleeding pretty much 24/7 [immense fibroids] for going on two years (varying from spotting to flooding). I fought Hys like hell for 8+ years, but at 49 (I am now 53), dealing with another potential 3-4 years of daily bleeding did not seem practical. I had a total cleanout...uterus, cervix, ovaries...due to glomming-up-post-[previous]-UAE. [i picked out a damned fine surgeon with mega-experience...went in for surgery circa 10am, and woke up in recovery circa 6pm...the hospital bill was $40K; fortunately insurance covered all but a couple hundred bucks.] My orgasms have been Afflicted...I can still HAVE them easily enough, but they are not NEARLY so Banging without the uterine contractions, hmm. OTOH, orgasms constitute a very tiny amount of my daily life, compared to bleeding ALL THE DAMNED TIME. *shrugs* So it was a good decision for me, I guess, under the circumstances. For the record, I am currently taking 2mg oral bio-identical estradiol plus a dab of testosterone gel. On the whole, I feel pretty good on a daily basis... Guest guest
Sheree, What a gem you are Thank you so much for looking into that! I discovered that I had 4 sample patches left (0.75 and 0.25) so I have been doing 0.1 mg every 3.5 days. My doc appt was canceled the other day so they rescheduled me for today and hopefully she will give me another script for the Dot so I can give this a good shot in the right way and test in maybe a month or two. I have had a couple of good night's sleep for a change. The kind where I slept through the whole night without a trip to the bathroom and my covers were hardly moved. Ahhh! Guest guest
IS there a secret to getting that sticky stuff off? lol...I have been using a tiny bit of oil before the shower which works but I still find myself working hard to remove it. I don't want to put a new patch over that residue because I'm afraid it won't stick and then I've wasted a patch. > > > > Laurie, > > > > I was on the Wiley Protocol for almost 2 years and really got all my receptors > > > messed up.
