Guest guest
It can be the case that porcine T-3 can contribute to insulin resistance, but usually does not. My sister is grossly overweight and has insulin resistance, thought to be exacerbated by the T3 but did not cause it. A number of factors cause insulin resistance, and natural (porcine) thyroid is usually NOT the culprit. I believe that T3 itself is more often linked with estrogen, whether it be natural or synthetic. Estrogen can also contribute to blood sugar and insulin complications. It is difficult if not imposssible to sort this all out, and maybe Dr. S is eliminating all things that can be implicated in insulin resistance, but a blanket statement against using porcine thyroid for this reason doesn't seem appropriate. Insulin resistance is a very complicated matter and brings into question so many hormones created by all the glands in the endocrine system. Plus, diet and exercise has so much to do with it as well. I believe that Armour, ERFA and most (if not ALL) natural thyroid is porcine in origin. My sis has not stopped her compounded natural T3 - she had been on Armour previously, before all the shortages began. I have been on Armour or other sources of natural thyroid for about 20 years, and another 7 years before that, with nearly 20 years between the thryoid use.. What caused me to become insulin resistant for a short time was a over dosing of progesterone, which upset my cortisol and other hormonal balances. Insulin resistance is far more complicated than eliminating things that MAY (or may not) contribute to it. The problem with using a very good, prominent Dr. is that manmy times they include their pet peeves or beliefs in the protocols they prescribe for patients.
