Guest guest
Hello colleagues,I am a geriatrician working on starting a solo housecalls-based micropractice. I am currently trying to figure out what to buy to put in the housecalls bag. I did some housecalls at my previous job but the bag was very basic: blood pressure cuffs in 4 sizes, pulse ox, gloves, some wound care supplies, hand sanitizer, and not much else. If anyone has a list of housecalls equipment and supplies they'd be willing to share, I'd be very grateful. I'd also appreciate suggestions on where to purchase the equipment. thanks,leslie-- Kernisan, MD MPHGeriatrics
Guest guest
I do house calls for the palliative care program. The only thing I would suggest is whether you want to do point of care: glu, lipids, urine? We have a contract with a lab and draw the blood. IT is for pt convenience not for the money we make. We have the supplies for that. I also have a measuring tape. IF you do any blood stuff you will need to get a small biohazard container. We shop around the web and find the best deals. Guest guest
Although I'd like to offer patients convenience, I'd prefer to not do blood draws...mainly because my skills in this department are extremely rusty (really, I drew way more abgs than venous draws back in residency). Between that and the poor veins that many older people have, I feel that I will just end up torturing people. A measuring tape is a good idea; do you get the little paper disposable ones?-- Kernisan, MD MPHGeriatrics On Tue, Jul 24, 2012 at 2:10 PM, Dr. Izquierdo-Porrera MD PhD wrote: I do house calls for the palliative care program.
