Guest guest
FYI. If anyone wants any information about Dr. Goldberg, please let me know. Basically, he has been seriously underfunded for years and his belief is that these huge increases in " autism cases " are caused by autoimmune disorders and not the past standard years ago where maybe one in 10,000 was diagnosed with autism. He is not a PR person and therefore, has not obtained the appropriate funding, but someone who has helped many children go from being diagnosed with the A word to graduating from high school and attending college..For proof, I can send you the group of parents who have been told their kids would be institutionalized and then ended up getting through childhooe with some bumps, ongoing work, and attending college.   My son's labwork was off the charts in so many areas such as liver count and showing constant infection, low iron, hidden food allergies,  and did not improve until I started with him. My son was so bad off that I realized that even if his body got better over years, it was going to take a lot of time to get him to where I would like him to be and I have worked like a dog. For a kid who I was told at two would never talk or probably understand anything I said, he is doing unbelievable. He has full language, understands everything I say, his styms are minimal, is still behind a bit grade-wise but is catching up, he has started enjoying sports and games, but has a ways to go socially and I don't know if he will ever be the most sophisticated kid socially. All I want is options after high school because I do not believe my son will be supported when I am gone if he cannot become independent. In my opinion, I absolutely do not trust the state/government to take care of my child when I gone. I am almost certain that this will not need to happen,.  We do not have the knowledge or medicines available yet to treat this disease fully although Dr. Goldberg tests and comes up with the best of what is available . We need to figure it out and be in the same place as we have with other diseases and come up with successful treatments.Dr. Goldberg wants to do this.  I know that mainstream medicine so far has not had any interest in trying to find the cause and treat what is going on, our politicians have failed us because if we do not treat our children, they will need assistance for life and no one cares about the future, some nonprofits may be making some money from us, and there are those who are outside these areas that may have taken our money without results because we are desperate.  Another thing that some parents in Mass. may not realize is that if your child is in special education and does pass MCAS with accommodations in 10th grade, he or she will not really graduate from high school. He or she will get a pat on the back and a certificate. This means no college (even if he or she was gifted in certain areas), no technical school, no trade school, probably not even art school!, and limited employment. How good will our kids feel then especially when they deserve better. The state keeps on coming up with more and more graduation requirements as we speak.  If you are interested about learning more about Dr. Goldberg, please contact me or go to his website http://www.neuroimmunedr.com.     At least, I ask you to read his article and consider this point of view.. Also, you will probably be able to correlate that what is going on with our children is similiar to this study and make your own decision.  Lynn From: dr.michaeljgoldberg <office@...> Subject: LET’S JUST STOP CALLING IT “AUTISM†Date: Friday, October 9, 2009, 5:42 PM  LET'S JUST STOP CALLING IT " AUTISM " What if the psychological affliction " Autism " had never existed? What if ever increasing numbers children were showing up in schools without speech, lost in their own worlds, and having unexplained seizures? Would we be diagnosing these children with a " developmental disorder? " Or would we be looking for root causes of their DISEASE and treating what they have medically? What if your children have is not " Autism " at all, but a medical disease in most part caused by viruses? According to a new study appearing in the October 2009 issue of SCIENCE, the latest research supports this idea and it is exactly what I have been advocating for twenty-seven years. This study describes the detection of a virus called XMRV (xenotropic MLV related virus) in about two-thirds of patients diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). It was conducted by researchers who collaborated from the Whittemore Institute, the Cleveland Clinic, and the National Cancer Institute and has tremendous implications for any family dealing with " Autism. " Many of those diagnosed with " Autism " have blood work that contains these same viruses. Autism (or should I say a " diagnosis " of Autism) has increased in staggering numbers over the past ten years. One in every 91 children in the US has what we refer to as " Autism " (read American Academy Pediatrics Report). These statistics are endorsed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), American Academy of Pediatrics, and other agencies. California reports a 273% increase, land 513%, and Florida 600%. When a child is diagnosed with cancer, everyone understands the seriousness of the disease and its treatment. Because of this, cancer research is funded generously. " Autism " is now the third most prevalent childhood disease, but it remains the least funded in terms of research dollars. And how much of these research funds are devoted to the genetic causes of " Autism? " We are wasting what precious funds we have on genetic research for a disease that is, in no way, genetic in nature. In addition, the cost to local school districts in special education expenses is astronomical and growing every year! We are draining budgets and there are kids NOT getting better every day. What we have is an epidemic. Developmental disorders do not increase by 600% or occur in epidemic proportions. From a purely scientific perspective, an epidemic of something that can't be spread by germs is NOT POSSIBLE. It also should be impossible to medically treat and recover children with these various disorders, but I have been doing exactly that for 27 years (CFS and ADHD) and now 14 year ( " Autistic Spectrum " ). We have lost too much time focusing our energies on the genetic and " refrigerator mother " causes of this disease. The time to act is now. We must refocus our resources and move in the right direction with hard science, hard logic, and hard data and finally address this crisis medically. It is time to create a new focus with ONE goal and ONE idea to help your children. We must promote the medical treatment for this disease. We have proven time and time again, kids can get better. We, along with the medical community must come together, rally around the flag (or any other name you all want except " Autism " ) and focus on the true medical crisis. This is a tough disease, but as a disease, it is beatable. It more than past the time for parents and the medical community to join hands and lead the charge and make recovery possible for all children afflicted with the disease formally known as Autism. Can you enlighten me? thanks Lorelle (mum to 11 year old boy with diagnosis of ASD) > > > From: dr.michaeljgoldberg <office@...> > Subject: LET’S JUST STOP CALLING IT “AUTISM†> > Date: Friday, October 9, 2009, 5:42 PM > > >  > > > > LET'S JUST STOP CALLING IT " AUTISM " > > What if the psychological affliction " Autism " had never existed?
