Spect scans

Hi,

I am interested in spect scan for my son who may be possibly ADD. Has anyone had

experiences with Dr. Uszler they could share.  He is possibly borderline, I am

hoping spect will shed some light.  Anyway I would appreciate any feedback.  Is

the scan better than QEEG?

How dangerous is the radiation from the scan?  I am guessing it is minimal but

still concerned.

 Sincerely Noel

We had one done with Dr. Uszler 4 months before seeing Dr. G and I found it

very helpful. The procedure was not too bad and the information that we got

from it helped me.

But, he will not diagnose anything he will say your child has a PTSD/OCD

type scan which is what my sons showed makes me feel bad for the poor guy!

I try to keep him as low stress as possible.

I¹m hoping to get another one done this year as well to see if there have

been any significant changes.

Do you have to travel to CA for Spect Scan?

Step one would be to call the provider where you will have the SPECT, get the

CPT code (that describes the service) and the diagnosis code (ICD9 code) that is

usually used for kids like yours (just ask for a tentative one if they say they

can't give a diagnosis without seeing your kid, or ask Dr G's office if they

know which one gets used).  Then call your insurance and ask either for a

predetermination (depending on what they call it) or just ask if they can check

to see if it will be covered.  Then depending on their answer you'd go from

there.

You'll also want to find out if they are in-network with your insurance, and if

they are not, what your out-of-network benefits are, and whether this procedure

requires prior authorization.

Hi All,

My son is 7 yo and a pt. of Dr. G's for 4 years now. Recently, we have seen some

regression and are very concerned. Dr. G mentioned " at last resort " a SPECT

scan. Last resort, b/c of the costs associated with it. I called Huntintion

Radiology and they said more insurance companies are now paying for it.

So to my question, if anyone has had a SPECT scan done, gotten the insurance to

cover it, how did you do it?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

We just got the spect scan done last week and our insurance paid 80% of the

cost. We have Aetna. The doctor has not discus the results with us yet until

next week.

The cost is $1,800.00. We did the test at this clinic with dr Mandel who is a

great doctor and very sweet.

It Is very safe and we did not have any concerned.

H Holmes.
