Guest guest
I recently read the book, "IBS--Free at Last!: A Revolutionary, New Step-by-Step Method for Those Who Have Tried Everything. Control IBS Symptoms by Limiting FODMAPS Carbohydrates in Your Diet." It is by Patsy Catsos, MS, RD. (The second edition is a Kindle book on Amazon.) It outlines how to do an elimination diet and challenges with various types of FODMAP foods. It is focused on determining the problem foods for each individual rather than providing "the" diet that works. Jill Hersch On 8/9/2012 10:03 AM, Sharon McCoy wrote: Thanks Carla and Dave. Guest guest
Although we all (rightfully) tend to be distrustful of panaceas, I've heard a lot of good things about the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) and how helpful it has been for various inflammatory GI conditions. It was popularized several years back by the late Elaine Gottschall. I first learned of it from a friend who finally got control over her Crohn's flares by learning to follow the diet for several months at a time; after a while once things have settled dow she is able to "eat more normally" for a while, but when her GI system starts acting up again the diet works for her. Anyway, Gottschall's book "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" goes into a fair amount of depth on the theory and practice of the SCD, and purportedly applies to IBS as well as IBD. Certainly the basic concepts behind SCD and FODMAP are pretty much the same although I wouldn't be greatly surprised to learn of some minor differences.Ken Anyone have good info on the low FODMAP foods to give to patient with IBS?Thanks.
