Guest guest
Ellen, I'm new to this game so I have to ask silly questions. Is there another name for Dofetlilide? I would like to ask my doctor about it if it is that good. And what does NSR mean? I'm not on to the jargon yet. My first onset (or first recognized?) was on Feb. 6 and I was hospitalized for four days before the heart went back to a normal rhythm. Tuesday I went in for a checkup and complained that it seemed to be running too slow. EKG showed a pulse rate of 49. So now the medicine is being changed and for the first time the doctor is talking about a pace maker. In the meantime I am taking the Coumadin and it doesn't seem to be working. So far the magic number has not risen above 1.6 and at last check had dropped back to 1.4. How long does this sort of nonsense go on? Wife and I want to hit the road traveling this summer (Arizona gets hot!) and so far I am not getting very encouraging signals from the doctor. After all these years, and after probably many previous AFIB incidents (just short and non detected), how much does one really care? Is one now on this Coumadin routine for the rest of their life? Not exciting! Dave
Guest guest
Hi : NSR = Normal Sinus Rhythym Dofetilide a/k/a Tikosyn Check out the *Bookmarks* section of our website under *Medication*. There is lots and lots of info on Dofetilide. I forgot to mention the Cardiac Nurse that I spoke about in my previous post did mention that the patients who are considering Dofetilide/Tikosyn have to jump through hoops to get it. I would imagine you would have had to have been unsuccessful with all the other meds, before they give you Dofetilide. Keep in mind - Coumadin is better than the alternative. Except for two minor Afib espisodes, I have been in NSR for a year and a half and still on Coumadin. I am happy to stay that way - cause even if its only one minor Afib espisode, I do not want to take any chances with that awful word *stroke*!! I sure would check out dofetilide before I let them do something irreversible to my heart. > In the meantime I am taking the Coumadin and it doesn't seem to > be working. You might look up the foods that influence blood thinning. Perhaps search the archives here or the web.
