Guest guest
actually, i thought the overall evidence for statins in primary prevention is a 20-30% risk reduction in CV events. so absolute risk reduction and number needed to treat depend on baseline risk.if you start off with baseline risk of 2-3%, then you end up with absolute risk reduction of 1%. but of course some people have higher baseline risk. i agree that statins are generally overprescribed. -- Kernisan, MD MPHGeriatrics Cholesterol levels are just numbers. Absolute reduction in primary events with the use of statins is 1%. So for every 100 patients you put on statins, only 1 will benefit. Statins are almost worthless and using lipid panels to determine if they are effective even more so. My suggestion. Get a heartscan - calcium score and further stratify her risk. Get a VAP or NMR lipid test. Get an omega-3 index test Switch her to a Paleo diet. Guest guest
Actually a paleo template that is low carb based would be very beneficial, this is a very effective way to keep inflammation low, but as i said before, from the profile presented, my guess the patient is already eating this way.
