Guest guest
Good question. Two of my three boys had a seizure disorder before starting the protocol. We were able to wean both off medication and they've been seizure free for over a year now. Personally, I think it was more due to controlling the virus. i really believe it was HHV 6 causing the seizures. All the best, Robyn ________________________________ From: J <jkrishnaa@...> Sent: Fri, March 26, 2010 4:44:54 PM Subject: Question on SSRI and Seizures I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any connection between SSRI use and a decrease in seizure like activity (I am suspecting seizure like activity in my son though his EEG 2 years ago was normal). I am reading that brain serotonin deficiency can cause temporal lobe seizures, so was curious if anyone's child's seizures went away on SSRIs ? I guess I am wondering if my son's seizure like jerks and freezing could be related to brain serotonin deficiency in addition to other low serotonin symptoms. Guest guest
Thanks Robyn for your response. I understand Valtrex, Famvir and Zovirax are the mainstays in and these are not as effective against HHV 6. Could it be that a combo of one of these and an SSRI is effective against HHV 6 ? Esp if XMRV is also involved as some SSRIs are effective against HIV ? My son has been on Famvir and he did well initially (the first two weeks) and now he has more of those jerks, anxiety etc. I know that he has had serotonin issues for a long time well before Famvir. Also, Natasa had posted some time back that antivirals increase IDO and this in turn depletes tryptophan/serotonin. So this is all very interesting. Thanks Jay > > Good question. Guest guest
I'm sorry I do not have a real answer for you, but I often find myself so deep in my own world that I am mouthing, whispering, or even speaking out loud the words I am thinking, without any regard to where I am. Then when I come to I realize that somebody has seen me and it is so embarrassing. I've often wondered if this was a form of a seizure. Since I've started Imunovir I've noticed a decrease in this.  I have been on SSRIs for over 15 years but this did not help it. However, like I said, since I've been on Imunovir it has been happening a lot less. Also, since I started Imunovir (I've been on it one month) I'm a LOT less tired and the numbness I had from my left shoulder down to my fingers is gone (except for my pinky - for some reason I can't get rid of that.) Guest guest
hi jay i had seizures and they could not work out why? evey test showed clear. had them all stumped lol. but since being on the lexapro the seizures have stopped. but still get the uncontrolled shakes if i stop the valium and magnesium. there is a connection there with the CNS, specific hormones, brain function and gut function. Guest guest
We've had excellent results with Famvir with two out of my three boys. My other son switched to Acyclovir and his titers have come down. I cannot say beyond a shadow of a doubt exactly what resulted in improvements. It could be everything working in concert. I just know that my most severely affected son, Noah, suffered from seizures and another neurological condition called Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome. He would vomit for 2 to 3 days every month with migraines before and after. Altogether, he was out of commission for about 10 days out of each month. This went on for two years until Dr. G and antivirals. Guest guest
Thanks again Robyn. That's great to hear. It's amazing you have managed to remove antiseizure drugs. I am hoping we too won't need it. Maybe some of the things we're seeing on Famvir is still 'dieoff'. It does make sense when the 'right' antiviral is used, the seizures should go away too. Guest guest
Thanks Bridget for your response. I am still not sure what we are currently seeing are real seizures or seizure like jerks. So it would be nice if we can avoid any antiseizure med on . That's great that you benefit from Immunovir. I am looking forward to using it with my son one day. Guest guest
Hi , You're right. Apart from these seizure like jerks that we are seeing now, my son has had episodes (a few) in the past that did look like real seizures. Since those were stimuli(smells and elevation) triggered (I realised it late) they didn't show up on EEG as he didn't have those exact ones at that time. Luckily, we haven't had any of those for a long time. You're absolutely right about the CNS, hormone, brain and gut connection. The gut function is crucial in healing. After many years I realised my son's gut problems are actually due to the autonomic imbalance he has (partly could be due to Varicella/other herpes and partly due to other reasons). Guest guest
hi Kirstly i have all this testing like fructose malabsorption hydrogen breath testing, which was exceptionally high, so i have to eliminate all fruits, vegetables and foods containing fructose, fructans and sorbitol. i have also had blood testing for IgG food antigens, which for me showed a few things, but caesin (mil protien) egg and gluten were very severe, so i have eliminated those things from my diet. i have just had a sucrose malabsroption test done and my dr has suggested that i go totally sugar free, that is inclusive off things like glucose, dextrose, maltose, isolmalt etc. this has made a huge huge difference have had my ASD son tested and he is exactly the same with the exception of the sugars, but his fructose was really high too. as with his blood antigens to caesin, gluten and egg. Guest guest
hi fructose malabsorption is one of the main contributors to leaky gut/dysibiosis, as in the permability of the gut wall. i go thru prof De Meilier who deals mainly in CFS which i have, but i am also Aspergers. to me alot of things made sense so had my son tested, and got the same results back. we are in the process of having his immune panel done thru red laboratories, based in belgium, Prof De Meirlier uses them for all his testing. http://www.lifebioscience.com.au/ he uses this teste a urine toxic metabolite test to test for neurotoxicity, we both came back extremely strong From: freemanbk@...
