Guest guest
Hi Tammy, I answered what I could in the text below. Remember the meaning of a lot of these labs aren't necessarily very specific. It is more like a combination of things that point to immune dysfunction, as well as occasionally target something that can be specifically treated (like ASO titers). Hope this helps but my knowledge is limited - this is based on various explanations Dr G gave parents on chat years ago... We just received our lab results back and are wondering if any of you can tell us what they mean. Is Negative a good thing or bad thing? Is Positive Rubella good or bad? Does it mean he has rubella or does it mean he is immune to rubella because he was vaccinated for it? ** It's most likely because he's vaccinated. A negative after vaccination points to immune dysfunctions and certain specific immune deficiencies. I am so hoping there is something here that is wrong and can be fixed. I really want the anti-viral anit-fungal therapy to work for my son. I know it doesn't work for everyone...but i feel like his symptoms match many of the kids who were helped with anti-virals. ...Can anyone tell me by looking at these labs if he has a normal immune system or something not so normal that might be helped with anit-virals? *** Some kids can even have normal labs and dramatically benefit from the protocol. My son did. Sometimes things 'hide' until antivirals are started - especially HHV6. Also, since there are so many kids with immune deficiencies, they do need to be screened for them even though most will be negative ... they aren't always screened since the immune system isn't considered in mainstream med yet. So don't be 'discouraged by negatives', because it won't usually mean that your child can't benefit. Thanks... Tammy Kraft What does it mean if the Rubella Ab. IgG is Positive? ** Vaccinated and responded correctly. Very high antibodies can simply suggest strong immune reactions. Negative after vaccines would be a worse problem. sackie A Type 4 was indicative of a past or recent infection * sackie can be chronic. It's very common. You're not seeing an active infection, so that's fine. Cytomegalovirus Antibodies IgG was very high *33 Positive and IgM was Negative ** IgM negative means not an initial, active infection. Very high IgG can either suggest chronic, but most likely suggests a strong immune response. It's one of the viruses that are known to manipulate the immune system and a good target for antivirals, so that's one of the markers you want to see. Elevated Intereron-Alpha * Yup - you see that. Can't tell you much other than a marker - might mean stressed/inflammatory immune system, chronically activated, turned up on high. ALT (SGPT) was low (less than 20) ** Liver markers - usually resolve on the protocol. You don't want it high. Ferritin was low (22) ** Iron stores. That's not terribly low but warrants iron supplementation. However, the protocol often resolves iron deficiencies because chronic immune activation affects iron absorption or causes the body to 'move' it somewhere else. HHV-6 PCR, P was negative ** Very hard virus to test for, and causes problems even when it's latent - recently proven. You may see it jump to positive or high positive within a few months of antivirals (if it is tested often - might not get tested again for a year). Anti-D-nase B titer, S was *170 ** not sure what normal levels are - it's a strep test. I don't think that's all that high - I think it points to a recent strep infection. ASO Antistrep-O Titer was *162 ** That's not too high either (strep test). When it gets over 300, it can mean strep is chronic or you're having too strong of an immune reaction to strep, or that you just have strep. You get antibiotics then and aso is monitored until it goes under 200. PANDAS kids will have 400s, 500s, and higher. Herpes Antibodies Type 1 and Type 2 IgG were negative *** That's good - that's the cold sore virus and the gen.herp. virus - don't want those. Gliadin (deamidate) Ab was negative *** Inflammatory bowel markers, one of the tests showing problems w/wheat products. Anit-Nuclear Antibodies was negative *** That's very good to have negative - it's one of the autoimmune markers where the body is attacking it's own cells. Hope that helps. Best of luck!
