Guest guest
I am so stressed! We have been seeing Dr.G for a year, and have made good progress. I love Dr. G and find him unique that his passion truly is for our kids. We were actually at our highest point until recently. From Aug-Nov my son's virals were down to 20,and he was talking more, happy, and all the teachers, etc were taking notice. Then, he had several bouts with ear fluid, and a couple ear infections and everything went down hill. He has been on 4 antibiotics this season and is regressing. I HATE antibiotics! It makes me miserable, and I see it does the same for my guy. Septra in particular, was the most harsh. He cried from tummy pain, and would poop every 5 days! Poop was foul, with pepper like flecks in it. He stopped sleeping, would wake 3 times a night, and would either wake crying or laughing hysterically. I started treating with probiotics, and within 3 days he started sleeping again, and his odd laughter went down. During this time his virals went up to 320, and his iron dropped from a healthy 80 to a scary 12. So, now he has been holding his ear, and head and is miserable again. Loads of tantrums for no reason, less verbal, and not learning at the pace he was. Took him to ENT and he is clear. ENT did full exam including tympranogram and nothing. Last week had a visit with Dr., and he noted that he was miserable due to illness. His ears were still clear, but Dr. wants him on Bactrim for 2 1/2 months, to boost his immune system and keep him clear. (he had slight runny nose) I trust the Dr., and feel like he is great at what he does, but I am having a really hard time doing this. Every batch of antibiotics, creates more pain, more behavior, and less words. I explained this, as well as the fact that my family has all reacted with severe stomach pain on Septa, but he didn't really 'hear'me. There is no infection. Plus, bactrim is the same as septra and he did terrible on it. He insists it is not the antibiotic but the fillers that bothered him. He says I need to do this to keep him clear, and move forward to other parts of the plan. Has anyone ever disgreed with the rx? Has anyone seen good from longterm use of anitbiotic? everything Ive read, and everything I have seen with my son, and myself, says this is not a good idea. If I do this, and he goes through hell again, it will be my fault for not listening to me gut. If I don't, and our wise Dr. was right, than I will kick myself! I trust him with everything else, and I know he is a knowledgable Dr. Who am I to question? Ahhhhhh!
