Guest guest
I am aware that Effexor is an SNRI meaning that it affects the reuptake of norepinephrine - but doesn't also have all of the properties of an SSRI? I thought it was a combination of seratonine and norepinephrine. Or is it JUST norepinephrine and not seratonine, too? I am trying to get all of this straight in my head because it appears from some articles that Effexor has an even higher level of suicidal/homicidal cases associated with it. But no one really talks about it in detail like Prozac, Paxil, etc, etc. Info, please? Guest guest
In doses up to 150 mgs daily Efexor/Effexor/Venlafaxine works as a SSRI. In doses above 150 it works both as a SSRI & a SNRI. At its highest doses it even has mile effects on dopamine recovering now after being on 300 mgs of the crap for six or seven years !!! > In a message dated 4/26/05 7:09:39 AM Mountain Daylight Time, > SSRI medications writes: > > > > A friend finally tapered off Effexor within the past month. Oh, we know Effexor is a bad drug. It's an SNRI, so it affects BOTH serotonin and norepinephrine, and yes, it's been responsible for many a case of mayhem. And yes, we want ALL psych drugs off the market!!! There isn't a one of them that is any good. " Blind Reason " a novel of pharmaceutical intrigue Think your antidepressant is safe? Think again. Guest guest
Effexor is an SSRI/SNRI combination drug. The SNRI stands for Selective Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor. Strattera is the only pure SNRI approved for use in the US but there are others approved for use in other countries. The manufacturers of Effexor and Cymbalta have taken to calling their drugs SNRI meaning Serotonin and Norpinephrin Reuptake Inhibitors. I suspect that's been done to appear that they are not connected to the recent SSRI controversy being played out in the press. Don't be fooled, Effexor and Cymbalta are both partially SSRIs. > In a message dated 5/25/05 12:45:12 AM Mountain Daylight Time, > SSRI medications writes: > > > > I realize this group is SSRI > > Crusaders, but is that all? Guest guest
Y'all, Yes, I'm from the South. I'm well aware of what Effexor is. It is also an SDRI at the dose I was on. But thanks for making that clear since I didn't. > > In a message dated 5/25/05 12:45:12 AM Mountain Daylight Time, > > SSRI medications writes: > > > > > > > I realize this group is SSRI > > > Crusaders, but is that all? Guest guest
My husband takes Effexor XR for his clinical depression (he's not CFS/FMS) so if you find out about it not absorbing or any more information, please write on this site. I would be interested in knowing what you find out. in La Selva Beach CA Re: Re: For Rich: glutathione test results Marcia, thanks for the encouragement. I have been told that if the CFS can be made better that usually the mold and MCS become better based on past experiences. Sure hope that will happen for you. Isn't the Myers cocktail the one given to AIDS/HIV patients? that I don't know Is this given to PWC's also? Its given to all kinds of patients, it was an MS friend who told me I really needed to do it and how much it helped her and she was right, it helps me too. I am seeing my CFS doctor next week and he wants to give me a diflucan IV, which might be good for the mold and yeast. I wanted to also talk with him about getting glutathione IV's and I guess you are getting you Myers IV from your M.D.? I dont' have a cfs MD, never had found one close enough to see. Can't afford to travel and my crappy insurance wouldn't pay for any of it anyway. So I'm seeing an ND-naturepath (when I can afford it. He's the one doing the IV's and will dispense me the DMSA and work with me on the metals elimination. He sold me the methyl B12 as well. Do you know if the Myers cocktail is covered by Medicare. I am not on any medicare/medicaid or SS or any help so I dont' really know. I do get a vitamin IV from my doctor but he never mentioned it was named the Myers one so I need to ask him. You may already be getting it then. Does it help you? Do you see any difference from it? Have you checked to see if any of your vit/supplements have magnesium stearate? Just curious. MANY of them have it, and my stearic acid and palmitic acid are waaay tooo high on my organic acids tests and I think thats why! I'm going to have to try and weed some of them out as much as I can. I am also wondering if maybe my medications have magnesium stearate? I wonder if it would be on their website for the drug companies? I just did my fourth colonic and you can see what is flushing out in a clear tube, which the irrigations go through, and I noticed this past time clumps of fecal matter which had small, round white balls of medicine. I am sure it is my Effexor. I have reduced dosages before and put the small white balls of medicine in empty gelation capsules. I am not sure why those did not dissolve in the past? not sure about that either! Marcia

Guest guest
Hi, I am nervous about stopping effexor and honestly don't know if I want to. Is that a sign of addiction? Can you be addicted? I have an appointment with my Dr. tomorrow and plan on talking to him about the withdraw and problems with this med and see if he has anything to add to what I am already thinking. I feel like Effexor has really helped me but I don't want to be on it forever so I am really not sure what to do! I am going to find that book though!
