Sue,

I'm so glad you are doing good. I'm almost off too. I'm hoping another 2

weeks. It's getting to the point where I'm forgetting to take effexor and

I'm not getting awful sideaffects. Like if I forget to take it usually

within a few hours I'm having sideaffects. I'm not!!!!

I just reread the article on SSRI's, about they make us lose control (in not

so many words), I wonder if that is why I always just got angry, small

things would make me so angry. It's not happening as much anymore. Coming

off effexor and getting my thyroid properly treated I think has helped me

greatly!

Still feel upbeat about it and keeping busy doing computer graphics. I get

hi Kirsty

look i myself had a very very very bad experience with effexor, so much so that

it made want to hurt myself. really bad stuff in my opinion and i am 42.yes i am

on an ssri lexapro, but only half the intended minimum dosage. and works great.

not trying to scare you and i know we are all different, but that stuff is bad

news. others may have had a good experience with it. but myself personally i

would not go near it.

seriously if you are going to try it, then i suggest that you start with half

the dosage your dr suggested, just for the first two weeks. just to be on the

safe side. then if all ok go up to the recommended dosage by your dr

Can anyone tell me about Effexor for an 8 year old? The good, the bad and

the ugly? Any idea why Dr G might prescribe it?

I and all three of my kids take Effexor with no problems. Effexor is actually an

SNRI. It is so important to understand that each individual's experience with

these types of drugs (SSRIs and SNRIs) is pretty unique. What works great for

one person can be awful for another.

All the best,

Robyn

I had that reaction to Paxil - outright suicidal thoughts right at the 2 weeks

mark, and effexor was the best snra over ssri for me until my stomach developed

a sensitivity.

My son is on it now, and it really helps with his ocd, anxiety, and overall

misery - but not with his add.  If the dose gets too high (he's 8 and tiny so he

can only handle 37.5), he starts having trouble sleeping.  The low dose is

working well with him.

Some people do well mixing a couple too, using effexor as a secondary/adjunct.

You are so right, . A " combo " of low dose SSRI and SNRI is what worked

for me and all three of my boys. Two of them take 1/2 mg of Tenex for ADD

symptoms. Effexor seems especially good for my seven year old who trends toward

emotional outbursts, OCD behaviors and night terrors. It just goes to show you

how unique everyone's brain and brain chemistry truly is.

hi all

that is great that there has been some positive feed back about effexor, that

was just my experience, and i guess we all need to be aware that these drugs do

and can have adverse side affects, but once you find the right one, they are

great and do elivate alot of issues.

myself being an aspie, i can see the real positives but for the one negative i

hate it now makes me have a snail brain, i feel like in the movies and you see

the exaggerated slow motion, well thats what my brain now feels like. that i am

living in a world of slow motion. but i am learning to live with that, as that

negative is nothing compared to the positives it brings.
