Is anyone using Paxil and Zyrtec at the same time?

I am checking drug interactions on the internet and found moderate

interaction between these meds.

Thanks

We did, many times.  I did question it and I think it had something to do with

what kind of ion channel the meds use. Apparently it wasn't enough of a risk to

be concerned about (and he's all about safety).  There is another med

interaction associated with nizoral I think, and we continued to use that combo

too.

You can ask about it but I think you're ok.

HTH

(PS: Zyrtec and other allergy meds cause extreme irritability and oppositional

behavior in my son, and it begins about 6 weeks after starting the meds and gets

worse and worse. It doesn't happen for everyone, but on the chance it does in

your child, just be aware - we don't start out suspecting that med because it

happens so long after starting it that we think it's fine.)

Thanks .

My son was prescribed 1/8 tablet of 10mg Paxil. I am having tough time

breaking them apart. I appreciate any ideas. The only idea I have now is

take 1/2 tablet and dissolve it in the water and divide dosages for 4 days.

I do not know the potency whether we lose the potency or not. I appreciate

your input.

Thanks

Yes, my son (now 5) has been taking Paxil and Zyrtec at the same time since

November (2009)! Not sure if it makes a difference in side effects, but he takes

real Paxil (not Generic, and not compounded) and dye free, sugar free Zyrtec.

Paxil is given in the morning and Zyrtec at night. My son has had no negative

side effects from this combination! The only reason we give Zyrtec at night is

because it makes my son drowsy! Perhaps, giving the two meds at two completely

different times is why we have not encountered any problems!!!

Again, every kiddo is different!

Hope this helps!!!

Hi,

It never occurred to me to do it that way :).

I just cut them down to 1/8ths as well as I could and didn't worry about the

slight differences in dosing over a period of days.  You bump it up soon enough

so you don't have to deal with it that long.  I can't remember if some generic

brands (obtained at different pharmacies) maybe cut/divide up better or not.  I

would cut the pill down, and start with the smallest section and build up from

there.  I remember picking up some of the crumbs by pressing them with my

finger.  Gosh that was so long ago I have forgotten that little trial lol!

I really don't think it will divide all that well by mixing it with water

because the pills aren't designed to go into suspension, but I couldn't say one

way or another if it would work.  I think accuracy isn't important enough for

you to go thru that trouble.

HTH,

I use a razor on a plate to cut the tablets.

Both methods work. For small child I like the dissolving in water method better

because it felt more accurate. I do not like having to go to a compounding

pharmacy because it's just one more place to deal with.

I think the key that people need to remember on this is that you need to measure

the water, too. If you're dosage is 1/8 and the whole tablet is 10 mg, that

means you need to use 8 ml of water for 1 pill. Dosage would then become 1 ml

(which would = 1.25 mg or 1/8 of a pill). Be careful you don't just try to use

any amount of water. Then you can't figure out dosage.

Hi,

It is better to get it in liquid form from your closest CVS, Walgreens or

Walmart pharmacy. You don't want to mess up with the SSRI dosage.
