I'd find out the head of the department (i.e. someone way above the

person you were talking to) and copy paste this email to an email to

him/her and explain that you're very frustrated. Explain that you're in

shock by how you were treated by the employee (and be sure to include

her name). I would say that you're connected to other families

and that you've been sharing your experiences and everyone is

shocked...See what kind of response you get.

You know - that thought crossed my mind during the first minute of the

conversation.  I thought maybe that could have explained the lack of

reciprocity in the conversation - the dead silences, etc. But she sounded too

angry, trying too hard to take what I said and say something nasty in response,

to have been somebody with Asperger's.  She seemed to be in a very bad mood and

looking for an argument with anybody. It was hurtful and disappointing to say

the least.

Hi Janelle,

Thanks - that's good advice. She made it sound as if she was the head of

everything, saying " I'll have somebody call you and interview you and then I'LL

see if we take your son on as a client. " Yet when she said her name all she said

was " Mrs._______ " She wouldn't give me her first name, let alone any title she

may have had.

Sorry to hear of your experience.

This nonsense seems to be spreading. A 'Developmental' Pediatrician started a

practice three years ago in our area, and also has a child with autism. A family

was told just last week this Dr. is not accepting new patients with autism but

just accepting typical children, because the practice had too much of a

percentage of ASD children.

The numbers are increasing because the percentage of our children with

neuro-immune disorders is increasing. It is ridiculous that some of these

so-called 'Doctors' out there are choosing to ignore this fact.

I feel for you and yes that should not have happened. having been a business

owner for years I have dealt with these horror stories before.

Realize that there are less than a dozen docs in the USA that are addressing the

immune issues. NNY Autism is one of them

this is different, the NNY Autism clinic is run by a very dedicated staff and is

awesome. they are a non profit and the woman that has made this happen has spent

years as a volunteer director, no pay, just helping kids whether they have

dollars or not.

Hundreds of children have been helped/recovered because of her tenacity and

commitment.

In today's economic environment much less philanthropic dollars are available.

It is hard is an understatement.

A lot of stress, you have one child they have dozens.

No excuses for not being empathetic but realize what the docs are up against!

call back and ask for again, we all have bad days.

I feel for you but your decision to call NNY Autism was a good one.

I echo Bill's view, too, as my daughter is a patient of the NNY Autism Center.

I have never ever seen such dedicated people who really care about kids with

autism. They have so much work with so many kids, but their knowledge and

service is unparelleled. The people of that office have changed our lives. The

director has gone out of her way and spent many hours on the phone with me, even

just to help me get through tough times with some sound advice.

I am so sorry about how you were treated, not that it is an excused but I know

that people there are stressed out, over-worked, and underpaid. I don't think

you will regret it if you still move forward with them.

Please email me privately if you wish, I will do my best to answer any questions

you may have.

I agree. That sounds like a much different experience than the

helpfulness I got a few years ago when I exchanged e-mails with the clinic's

founder.

I wonder if that is the one connected with Texas because if it is then that

woman was cold to me as well. Flat out pushed me Texas and said it was closer

and they could not help me. She did not even bother to get more information

about whether or not *I* thought it would be closer or if I would be traveling

in that area soon. So, I called TExas and lo and behold, she was also short and

I had to practically beg her to send out the packet they normally send out in

snail mail to me. (I have to say that it still has not arrived and I do not

anticipate on it arriving at all.)

I think I will just have to get all the information I can from my groups, like

this one, and keep plugging at it until a doctor orders the tests my son needs.

Back to the issue at hand, when you work with the public, whether you are a

doctor, a telephone receptionist, or a pizza delivery restaurant, you have to

respect the customer or potential customer on the other end. Not doing so is

simply unprofessional in behavior and not very friendly. People who cannot be

cheerful, helpful, and friendly, need not be a telephone receptionist answering

the phones and being a representatie for the company. People asking for/seeking

help do not deserve to be treated any less than kindly 100% all the way.

Odds are Mrs. _______ has at least one boss! I'd make sure her boss

knows what's going on when the phone gets answered or calls get

returned!

Just my take on it.

Good luck!

Wow! I called there and talked to ? (I'm can't remember her name- maybe

someone else can help) - the nurse, who was incredible- she spent at least 45

min talking to me explaining the philosophy, etc and was incredibly

generous with her time and info and she knew we were going out to see Dr G. See

if you can talk to her. It doesn't sound like the person you spoke with is how

the rest of the clinic/group is.

Except when Mrs.______ does not let you speak to anyone else! And no one returns

your call. I have been in that situation too many times and what I have learned

is that it wastes a lot of precious time to fight some things because they will

try to turn it around on you.

Hello,

All is well now. I received a very nice email from the director of the center,

and the office will be in contact with me shortly for the interview. I feel a
