Guest guest
In our case, we have just found out that our son is high in copper (via Pfeiffer). They advised us to give (among other things) cod liver oil, epa, and primrose oil. So I'm assuming that it is okay but have no idea if one has any effect on the other. I am so new at this that this is all I can tell you. Jules
Guest guest
Why would cod liver oil affect copper levels? I have recently started my son on CLO with good results. I tried it a long time ago and got a major bad attitude from him, but this time it seems to be working great. (Just a note for those who have tried it before, try again!) Guest guest
Hi group, Coromega is primarily an Omega-3 fatty acid; it is not cod liver oil. You can find information at www.coromega.com, and it can be purchased at Kirkman Labs as well. We give coromega to our son, and it is the easiest supplement to give him; he eats right off the spoon because the orange taste is pretty good. For CLO, we use Kirkman's lemon/lime flavored liquid, and he is okay with us shooting into his mouth with a syringe. Max --- Stringer <stringer@...> wrote: > I think it's called Coromega. Guest guest
I rub CLO on my son's skin (transdermally). I don't suppose that this method is as effective as giving it orally, but have heard many times it's better than nothing. I put it on my son after he falls asleep, and switch areas on his body frequently; buttocks, back, stomach, thighs, etc. Hope this helps, Debbie
Guest guest
Yes - you can try the flavored CLO - kirkman sell it now. If all else fails - you can actually rub it on the skin as it will be absorbed transdermally. Charlie > no matter what i mix it in my 3 year old will not drink it. any ideas? Guest guest
I know I'm lucky that my son will swallow capsules. Have you tried this with your child? I didn't think my son would take them for a second, but he suprised the heck out of me. I use Kirkmans caps. Good Luck Jules > no matter what i mix it in my 3 year old will not drink it. any ideas? Guest guest
I use Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil with Orange flavoring. It doesn't taste bad. I mix it in apple sauce. I would not try to mix an oily thing in a watery thing (like juice). I lick the spoon every day after I give it to him just to get the extra vitamins for myself and believe me I wouldn't do it if it tasted like fish! Best wishes, Maddie > no matter what i mix it in my 3 year old will not drink it. any ideas?
Guest guest
Hi Yes I heard of this before and expereinced it. Withdrew and tried again but adding Omega 6 first (we used EPO) to bablance out Omega 3 (in the CLO). Also some flavours added to to some oils may cause issues too. is EFA guru LOL, if she misses your post put her name in header - she will have good links for you to read about the need to balance the types of oil Mandi in UK > Has anyone ever noticed cod liver oil CAUSING > hyperactivity/irritability/sleep problems? Guest guest
yes each time I have tried to introduce an EFA or cod liver oil our child goes hyper after about 3 days - seems to be an absorption issue Cheers H cod liver oil > Has anyone ever noticed cod liver oil CAUSING > hyperactivity/irritability/sleep problems? Guest guest
> Has anyone ever noticed cod liver oil CAUSING > hyperactivity/irritability/sleep problems? Yes. My son did not tolerate CLO, it caused problems similar to this. Dana
Guest guest
Hi, Would someone please post a link to an information site that explains the EPA/DHA/GLA/EPO? I am supplementing CLO (Kirkman's) and don't know if I need to check the EFA's or whatever else? Thanks,
Guest guest
HI I have found the www.equazen.com site very useful. I use their product too. If you go to home page and scroll down they a section called inner sanctum, you need passwords natural and equilibrium to get in. is doing many studies look out for her work. also posted good links a while back but I lost those when I had comp probs and needed a reformat. Guest guest
Mark, My brand is Carlson Cod Liver Oil, the only liquid cod liver oil carried by my local health food store. A measuring teaspoon provides 500-550 mg of DHA plus 460-500 mg of EPA, or about 1 g of Omega-3 fatty acids. The two measuring teaspoons that I am taking per day thus provide 2 g of EPA/DHA Omega-3. Three measuring teaspoons would provide the recommended 3 g of EPA/DHA Omega-3. Based on your input, it appears that the Carlson brand is three times better than the Dale brand. A statement found in many web pages is " Most fish oil supplements are 18% EPA and 12% DHA, or a total of 30% omega-3. " Regards, Harald At 01:53 PM 4/23/03 -0400, you wrote: >What brand of cod liver oil are you using Harald? Actually I don't use either anymore as I now use the Ultra Omega Liquid Fish Oil from Harvest from the Sun which is more potent than Carlson's or Dale 's and doesn't have the added problem of worrying about overdosing on Vitamin D or A. Regarding the % of epa/dha, I just go by the milligrams to really tell what is in them and how potent they are. I will say that my 2-3 teaspoons a day seem to be helping, but my increased exercise program may be helping quite a bit as well. Always hard to tell when you start two things at the same time. Sorry, I misnamed my product . It is Health from the Sun, not Harvest from the Sun. Product description is at http://www.healthfromthesun.com/newproducts.html#omega3 . I usually find this at my Whole Foods Grocery store (http://www.wholefoods.com/) but you can get any Health Food store to order it for you, I suspect. Runs about $10 per 8 oz. bottle. Bottle claims about 48 servings (1 tsp or 5ml). I usually take 2-3 tsps per day. Mark
Guest guest
Some say you should do Omega 6 oils first for a while, other disagree. Sam had a hard time with it, we withdrew, did EPO for 6 weeks and then added it back and reaction wise he was OK, he still hated the taste though LOL I was also told to use Vits C & E as antioxidants, I was using them anyways. Some found found No Fenol helps too, but I don;t understand why??? HTH Mandi in UK > Does anyone know why my son would not be able to > tolerate cod liver oil. Guest guest
He might actually need Omega-6 before the Omega-3 you get in CLO. I saw the same thing in my NT son with CLO. I started supplementing Evening Primrose Oil first and now CLO seems to be OK--no tantrums! [ ] Cod liver Oil > > > Does anyone know why my son would not be able to > tolerate cod liver oil.
