Guest guest
Hi! We are traveling to see Dr. G next week (from Chicago) - does anyone have any suggestions on what to bring/expect? Also, are there any GF/CF friendly restaurants or grocery stores in the area? We will be there a few days (for spect first, then visit) so any input is appreciated. Finally - how long does the spect scan take to run? My son is only 5, so they are sedating him (IV or oral - anyone know?) - info on this is also appreciated! Thanks, Meera
Guest guest
Hi Meera, I think my biggest recommendation is to take a tape recorder! Dr. G has always let us tape our appointments so that we can review them later. You will be presented with so much information that it can be difficult to remember it all. You¹ll be trying to watch your son, think of questions to ask, answer Dr. G¹s questions and take in everything he is telling you. It¹s a lot to absorb. Make sure you have enough tape to go for a couple of hours (I remember running out of a 90 minute tape the first time). The appointments run pretty long, especially the initial one. I¹m sure others will pitch in with other ideas. Best of luck, Caroline From: Meera <meera327@...> Reply-< > Date: Sun, 21 Mar 2010 02:27:20 +0000 < > Subject: Appt next week Hi! Guest guest
I think that's a brilliant idea. & nbsp;Get a digital voice recorder, that way you don't have to worry about running out of tape. -- Sent from my Palm Pre On Mar 20, 2010 9:51 PM, Caroline Glover & lt;sfglover@... & gt; wrote: & nbsp; Hi Meera, I think my biggest recommendation is to take a tape recorder! Guest guest
Hi Meera, My son had IV sedation for the spect scan. A tape recorder is a great idea. Dr. G's office has a small play area for the kids with some toys. I'm not sure about gfcf area food establishments, except across the street is a California Pizza Kitchen that has really good salads. Guest guest
I have three boys on the protocol and their appointments are always on the same day. A tape recorder is a great idea! In our case, my husband goes with us, so he can keep the kids out of trouble while I take notes. Guest guest
Hello Meera~  Just to add to the previous suggestions, let me tell you how we operated on our first visit with Dr. G., back in August. My husband and I are military both folks and operate by checklists, so this is what we recommend for your first Dr. G. visit:  - HIGHLY advise you bring your spouse or partner or some other adult. This will give you an extra set of eyes and ears both with Dr. G. and your kiddo!   - Recording device............preferably digital..........Dr. G. is RARELY at a loss for words!!  - Extra batteries for your recorder............or, make sure you put brand new ones in prior to the visit  - Make a list of questions you have for Dr. G. Leave PLENTY of space between each question. Both you and your spouse/partner/ adult friend should have the same list. Both take notes, if you can.  - Bring a backpack FULL of stuff your child likes, IE; DVD player, books, toys, food, drinks, etc... Yes, there are toys at Dr. G's office, but you don't want to take the chance of your child being bored or getting cranky.  - Also, bring a camera. Not sure if your son has been to the beach, which is not a far drive from LAX. My son LOVED the waves crashing on the beach and he loved chasing the sea gulls!!! Great photo opportunities!! Just a suggestion!!  - If you fly into LAX, the traffic can be absolutely HORRIBLE at certain times of the day!! Give your self plenty of travel time! Not sure how the traffic is with the other airports, maybe some else can chime in on them!!  - As for GF/CF restaurants.............here is a website we use: http://www.fastfoodingredients.com/ . We brought a lot of food from home for our son.  Hope this was helpful and too lengthy for you. Have a safe trip.  ~  -ED     From: Robyn & Greg Coggins <rngcoggs@...> Subject: Re: Appt next week Date: Sunday, March 21, 2010, 8:54 AM  I have three boys on the protocol and their appointments are always on the same day.
