Guest guest
I¹m not sure if it could be a seizure, but wonder if it could be a tic. Caroline Hello all, Our son just did something very strange with his eyes. His eyes momentarily flickered back and forth involuntarily for a few seconds at a rapid rate. What in the world???? Could this be a seizure? Has anyone else experienced this? Is this something to be alarmed about? Thanks so much for any insights. Guest guest
Hey Martha, Sounds possible that it could have been nystagmus, which can be caused by a lot of things. If you google it it's likely to scare you, but there are a lot of possible causes. I would be concerned if it keeps happening, but one or two episodes would not be concerning. It's a brain thing, and it can be caused by trauma, but it can also be caused by illness, the same kind of brain inflammation our kids are prone to anyway. It sounds more like that than like a seizure. I would just keep a watch on it, and report it to your pediatrician, who may want to do an exam. If you see it more than once, then write down when it happens, and all the details about what was going on during that time. Oh - inner ear stuff can cause it too, and vertigo. I wouldn't be surprised if pressure from sinuses - in response to all this pollen - triggered some inner ear stuff and caused it. That would be my first assumption, and only if it continues would I be worried. Hope that helps, ________________________________ From: Martha Wood <marthawood70@...> " groups (DOT) com " < > Sent: Sat, April 10, 2010 7:49:53 PM Subject: Possible seizure?  Hello all, Our son just did something very strange with his eyes. Guest guest
I researched online last night and found something called Nystagmus that it could be. I will talk with Dr. G asap. Scary. It hasn't happened again to my knowledge. Thanks for your input. Guest guest
, I found nystagmus, too when I researched last night. It very well could be the allergy/sinus thing, too. Now that I think of it he was pushing on his ear a little yesterday. Thanks so much for responding to this email. I was a little panicked. I will keep a close eye on this fella. Guest guest
Martha, If he does it again and it is possible for you to get some video of it, it might help the doctor. Caroline
Guest guest
Yup - if he was pushing on his ear ... I think you got it. That's the only cause of nystagmus that I don't think you'd have to worry about. Hope you're not fretting about it now. I hate that fear that comes when something is going on with our kids, and we see a lot more 'freaky' stuff than a lot of parents. Best of luck! ________________________________ From: Martha Wood <marthawood70@...> Sent: Sun, April 11, 2010 7:20:35 AM Subject: Re: Possible seizure? , I found nystagmus, too when I researched last night.
