Guest guest
We try to emphasize veggies and protein, our boys eat a lot of beans and lentils so that would not help with the gas. Jiffy peanut butter is a big staple in our house, as are apples, carrots and bannanas. Tahini free hummus, some raisins. Goat milk, cheese and yogourt. Its a constant balancing act. Tonight we had hamburger cooked with peppers, zuchini and fish sauce served in lettuce leaves. We try to save the starch for snacks and eating away. Hope this helps, From: kathd9 <kathyd3@...> Subject: Diet - GAS???? Date: Wednesday, June 2, 2010, 8:13 PM  My son is 7 years old and has been on the protocol for 6 months. I still haven't seen anything huge but I know this takes time. Dr Goldberg has told me what to take out of my son's diet. Hemp seed, tapioca flour to name a few. I was baking with Namaste gfcf Flours which was a mistake for the diet. My son's staple foods are all meats - beef, chicken, turkey, some fish, in the morning I started giving him eggs with a little bacon, zuccini with rice krispies. I'm really lucky he is a great eater He has a ton of veggies at lunch with a tiny bit of white rice or potato I have been letting him have some wheat now - the enriched flour and I know to stay away from anything WHOLE. But he is soooo gasssy. He isn't just gassy from the diet it is just part of his makeup. I thought taking out some of the allergenic flours and exotic foods would help but it hasn't, does anyone else here experience things. I mean the gassiness causes him to stim like crazy. My son is non verbal and severely affected so his food intake is tough he can't tell me what is aggravating him. I would love if someone could tell me what they feed their kid. What works what doesn't. I know that each kid is different but I appreciate the ideas from other moms. Kathy in BC
Guest guest
I don't know why, but when I eat a lot of veggies I often end up doubled over in stomach pain. Maybe he's getting too many veggies at any one time? Or, maybe it's the way they are prepared? I prefer raw or lightly steamed veggies, so I've often wondered if it's the way I eat them that causes me problems. Leafy greens (like mixed baby green salad) don't seem to cause me the same problem.in fact, they seem to help my stomach. Are all the meats nitrite free? Guest guest
hi Kirsty have you been tested for Fructose malasorption, that is one of the symptoms. some vegies are very high in fructose, and fructansthe veggies that are ok have a good ratio between fructose and glucose. you need the glucose to digest/absort the fructose. so when veggies that are higher in fructose to glucose, there is undigested fructose left, and if you have issue with fructose hence the pain, bloating, gas etc From: knardini@... Guest guest
Yes, yes I have been steaming veggies for years thinking that it is the best way to keep nutrients. Should I just boil them? Tonight I made a beef stew and let it cook for awhile and there is no gas. I've never considered any of the veggies he eats to be high in fructose. The veggies are usually french green beans, brocolli, celery, bok choy, spinach and zuccini or other squashes. He doesn't eat all these at once but generally this is what he eats. None of the meats have nitrates, I have been trying to be as organic as far as meats go (it is killing me - ok not killing me) but it is hard to make this switch to skippy peanut butter and wonderbread when I have always assumed that eating " whole " organic was the better way to go - but this is all about aggravating the immune system correct? Processed foods/grains are way easier to digest so maybe I should cook the veggies more for better digestion? Just curious if anyone has resorted to enzymes? I've used them in my DAN days but its been awhile and I'm quite sure Dr G has said once the food that is aggravating him is removed the gassines will go away. Thanks for taking the time with your answers for my food issue. I have struggled for years with this. Doing gfcf for over 3 years and never seeing an improvement from it - only doing it just in case it could help. I've always done more meat and veggies but end up with a kid who is gassy and giggly. The giggling always before a gassy episode. Guest guest
hi Kirsty broccoli and beans are high in fructose, onions are definitely a no no, so even onion flakes or powder in foods like herb mixes etc. as a test maybe drop out the broccoli and beans and see if that makes any difference. Guest guest
Kathy: My girl got the same problem 5 months ago. She is almos 2 years in the Nids. When we began we didn´t give her apples, bannanas or corn flakes. So we add this to the typical gluten and casein free diet. After 1.5 years of she got the gases and stomage problems again. What i did, suspend corn flakes, apples and bannanas, also lentils and all the food that make gases as brocolis. Add the permited probiotic (ask dr. G) and wait. She is improving slowly, no more gases. So now ia am introducing again, some veggies as artichoke and observing reactions. What i mean, suspend the suspicious foods, be patience when reintroducing any stuff. And obserb reactions. > > I don't know why, but when I eat a lot of veggies I often end up doubled > over in stomach pain.
