Guest guest
The numbers are nuts! Autism has become big business that has lost all sight of the goals. If the parents and children that scrounged and sweat on weekend mornings just to make those salaries would be appalled if they knew. I wonder if any one of those executives have ever walked in our shoes. Have they driven for hours to sit and wait in a speech center office for 30 minutes of therapy, day in and day out for months while seeing no improvement. Have they stood in a mall holding an emotionally out of control child while passing shoppers glare in disapproval. Has any of them sat through and IEP knowing that the services their child desperately needed were never going to materialize regardless of what the team decided. Have any of them sat with a bottle of peroxide dabbing at numerous cuts and scratches on their arms while their child cries out a tantrum in a corner, praying it would not re-occur but knowing it would. No they have not. If they had they would hide in shame for having allowed themselves to use the emotions and frustration of desperate parents and sick children to self enrich themselves to this magnitude. Guest guest
Alison Tepper-Singer who is shown in this that video has an autistic daughter. She finally left Autism Speaks last year after disagreements about their mission, and established her own organization called Autism Science Foundation http://www.autismsciencefoundation.org/ with Dr Offitt. Alison was one of the NBC parents (she worked at CNBC) involved in the early days at Autism speaks. She put together the news stories carried on NBC’s network about 5 years ago when Autism Speaks was founded. Alison interviewed Dr Goldberg at length, however he was not used in any of the shows. Some of us remain in contact with Alison. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Bill klimas Sent: Monday, June 28, 2010 8:59 AM Subject: Re: Someone put this on Stop Calling it Autism. Is it true??? Guest guest
Yes, money is blown on non-biomedical studies. And the salaries at Autism Speaks are phenomenal. Also even the Better Business Bureau does not recommend them as a charity because they do not meet every requirement of accountability. Geraldine Dawson makes 660,000 dollars a year for a salary. It makes me so sick. Please people do not give them your money!!!! http://www.bbb.org/charity-reviews/national/human-services/autism-speaks-in-new-\ york-ny-1456 - > > Or you could give your money to Autism Speaks so that they can throw a > party with it in their Park Avenue digs: > < > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Personally, this makes me a hell of a lot angrier than even the DAN doctors. At least some of the DAN docs think they are doing the right thing, besides they don't have any power. Autism Speaks have power (aka money and the the world's attention) and are just making themselves rich.
