This is super cool. If we can show there is a threat to the blood supply it will

open a flood gate of research into CSF and the WPI has already stated at a

conference last month that the same virus is prevalent in ASD, the research can

quickly transfer into Autism. The burning question is " Does XMRV trigger an

immune dysfunction or is it an outcome of an immune dysfunction? "

If it can be shown hat XMRV is a trigger, what the biggest problem will be is

" If XMRV can only be transmitted vertically -parent to child or through bodily

fluids - How in the world did an epidemic occur in young children in a singular

generation!

Vaccines, possibly?

All facinating stuff! Ive asked this directly to Dr. G (XMRV the trigger, or

another result?) He seems to think its another result of a screwed up immune

system, and although not the trigger, could seriously complicate things. But he

doesnt really have a definitive answer as to what starts the immune screw up to

begin with... other than some generalities about the food, chemicals, ozone,

etc.

On a related note, Im reading " The Virus Within " by Regush on Dr. G's

recommendation. Wow, thats scary stuff and very interesting as far as all of us

are concerned. Its about HHV-6.

Best, sloan

I spoke with Dr. Mikovits a month ago in person and she would never implicate

vaccines as the cause but there is speculation (from another party) that a human

endogenous retrovirus may have somehow combined with a murine leukemia virus and

voila! XMRV.

Right now there are studies going on (a family study with CFS/Autism) and soon

there will be a larger scale study on exactly what percentage of autistic

children this is affecting. As long as WPI and Dr. Mikovits don't deal with too

much opposition (that is happening so they are trying to keep things quiet) and

they don't get associated with the vaccine debate. They need to stay far from

that if they want to get anything accomplished. In fact, they are hypothesizing

that an XMRV can be made since this retrovirus is much simpler than HIV.

I doubt its 100% of ASD affected but I bet its a large percentage. To me it

seems like a puppet master virus. Especially in " gut " kids with ASD.

I did not mean to imply any speculation on vaccines and yes if we are going to

get to the bottom of this we need to distance it from the ongoing controversy. I

was only doing he math, I never spoke with anyone about any relationship.

Question: What is the implications of the term Puppet Master? I found no

references.

Respond off list if you prefer.

Oh sorry, Bill. I think I am just trying to protect WPI/Dr. Mikovits because

they staunchly disagree that vaccines were contamined with this virus. I hate

to see them go underfire for a speculation they never made! We need them to be

able to go forward with their work, many sick people do. I say find out more

about XMRV now, and speculate later ;)

I will write you off-list too.

Bill, it could be that XMRV is spread more easily than HIV. They have found the

virus in respiratory secretions of immunosuppressed...

Xenotropic Murine Leukemia Virus–related Gammaretrovirus in Respiratory Tract

Xenotropic murine leukemia virus–related gammaretrovirus (XMRV) has been

recently associated with prostate cancer and chronic fatigue syndrome. To

identify nucleic acid sequences, we examined respiratory secretions by using

PCR. XMRV-specific sequences were detected in 2%–3% of samples from 168

immunocompetent carriers and & #8776;10% of samples from 161 immunocompromised

patients.

I worry about it some.  I work in a preschool where 1/2 the children are on the

spectrum, and the other half are typically developing children, serving as peer

models.  If I were a parent of a typical child, I would be concerned enough to

consider pulling my child out of such a program.  BUT fortunately, we already

have so much knowledge about the transmission of AIDS that hopefully some of the

more extreme reactions would be limited.  I'm sure there will be some issues,

but I will gladly deal with them if it means that our children get a better

chance thru better therapies.

I'm worried about all of our therapists and young teachers who haven't even

started having their babies yet.  They need to know this asap so that they can

protect their future children, too.
