Subject: to fever or not to fever?

Thanks in advance for the help!

My son has had a fever of 100-102 for several days. My NT daiughter has the same

thing. Both have fevers of 101-102 on day one and then 100-101 for a few days

after. My question is- my son seems fine other than the fever- hes a little

cranky and a little tired which would be normal if you were fighting something

off ( my daughter has more congestion and a cough so she has started ABX). I

have read that fevers are good - its what fights off germs that can't live in

hotter climates. So, should I let him continue to fight off the bug on his own

or start on ABX ? If we are trying to keep inflammation down then I should start

him. If we are trying to rev up his immune system maybe I should wait until he

has some other symptoms. He has always gotten improved after an illness like

this- we would give Tamiflu and ABX and he would have noticeable improvement-

but I'm starting to worry about the effect of ABX several times a year. Please

don't yell at me :) I'm trying to weigh my options and yes, if the kids are

uncomfortable or at bedtime I do give them ibuprofen for the fever so they can

sleep easier.

Thank again!

Hey :)

You are so wonderful to ask! He had to start ABX as he was coughing and had

chest congestion. He had some regression so I don't think I will wait next

time. Again though as he does with illness, it may be that he will be better

afterward but who knows what to attribute it to. I'm happy for any improvement

but it would be so much easier if I knew how to proceed to have the best

outcome. We have been very lucky in that most of his improvement has stayed and

have had little regression- so you want to just pull your hair out when you

think something you've done- ie the choice I made- caused him to regress. ANd

by regress I mean stimming.

So now that I have the bug, I get to decide if I want an ABX :) hahaha
