New Information on Doctors and Lyme Disease Cases

Posted: May 22, 2012 4:55 PM EDT

Lynchburg, VA - The state health department is now warning medical providers in Virginia that they should consider all tick bite cases as potential Lyme Disease cases.

A letter went out last week urging doctors to assume that any patient exposed to ticks is at risk. The health department says there were more than one thousand confirmed or probable cases last year.

Opinions vary as to how long the tick needs to be attached before the bacteria enters the body. And you can, but don't always get a bulls eye rash with Lyme.

" The symptoms may be very quiet and takes months to develop, and what happens is we think of Lyme as unusual forms of arthritis, unusual forms of nerve palsies, as well as fever, aches and pains, " said Dr. Eppes of Forest Family Physicians.

Eppes says you shouldn't burn the tick or use tweezers to remove it; you should use your fingernails so you don't squeeze it.

And of course, see a doctor immediately if you develop symptoms like a fever or rash.

Reading over amendment 2127, it looks like it only requires supplement manufacturers to send a list of their ingredients and a copy of the bottle label to the FDA. You can read the details (including the discussion on the Senate floor) here:http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/F?r112:1:./temp/~r112XI6s5v:e34402: Some of the energy drinks out there don't list how much caffeine they have. All the medical supplements in my cupboard already have the ingredients listed. Could this be the beginning of a slide down the slippery slope to FDA-required testing of medical supplements? Possibly, but this isn't that.Read the details and make up your own minds.>> Hi everyone,> > The Senate is about to vote on a Bill giving the FDA new powers of our> supplements....> > If you disagree with this, call the number listed below and tell them you> oppose> this amendment...> > Best,> Jim> > > > > Date: Thu, May 24, 2012 at 3:11 PM> Subject: Scandal and Senate Bill Aimed at Restricting Your> Supplements?> > > [image: Life Extension]> > * Scandal and Senate Bill Aimed at Restricting Your Supplements?> *> > The U.S. Senate is about to vote on a law that will jeopardize your ability> to obtain dietary supplements.
