Hi all,

For those who've been through this.. please share your experience with viral and

yeast die-off while on Valtrex and diflucan.. what did you see behaviorally and

when did you see improvements. How long has your child been on these meds?

My son has been on Valtrex for six weeks ..I just started diflucan. I've noticed

that he's more giddy/goofy acting behavior than usual (is this yeast die off? Is

this typical?

Also I noticed a rash on his face and around his ears -- is this die off? Will

I notice an improvement in behavior after yeast and viral die off? How long?

Truthfully the meds make me very nervous..should I stay calm and just work

through this?

Thanks,

,

My son is 13, and has been on the protocol 1.5 years.

When he was on valtrex, he was ill for @ a month.

He used to go through through the giggles, and he

doesn't anymore. It was very distressing when it would

happen.

The meds did make me nervous at first, but Dr G is very

careful, and prescribes very small amounts.

Stay calm and work through this with Dr G. Keep him weekly

informed. Take good notes. Stay true to the diet.

Though my son, , started later, he is healthier and more alert

than he has ever been. I have real hope for him, now.

Hi ,

It sure does sound like die-off, especially the goofy sillies, and rash is

common too.  Average time to get past it is two weeks.  If you aren't using

dye-free diflucan or washing off the blue dye from Valtrex (for some), your

child could potentially react to those, but I'd wait past the die-off periods

(max 1 month) before worrying about that.

Antifungals are miraculous for my boys and myself.  The liver risks are so very

minor, and the way Dr G starts them reduces those risks dramatically - he has

only had to take 2 children off antifungals (unless more in the last 2 years)

due to liver function in all his years of doing this, and both kids returned to

normal.  Please don't be scared - they truly are a miracle, and the antivirals

are the long-term key to helping the immune system and beating this.

Hi ,

What anti-virals are you referring to? Would you give me their names. Are they

supposed to be helpful with all the neurolical symptoms, i.e., headaches,

muscle/bone pain weakness, fatigue, neurological itching,  etc. that I go

thru'?

Hi Ido,

The antivirals we use is Famvir.

What I found helped my muscle/bone weakness and pain, though, was a low allergy

diet.  Took me a while to realize my triggers - whole wheat (which I love) was

the very worst, and so was cheddar - my second fav.

Doxycycline combined with diflucan over a period of time was the most 'cooling'

to my immune system as long as I didn't eat the wheat, cheddar, or nuts.  I may

only eat squash, zucchini, potatoes, and meat for the rest of my life, because I

can't always figure out what may hurt me. :)

For some people with the symptoms you describe, the antivirals are an important

key for some people (as long as your dr is committed to giving them to you at a

high enough therapeutic dose (instead of the lower maintenance doses), and for a

long enough period of time to suppress and allow your immuen system to cool down

(a year to cool, then another year to 'stick').  But I had chronic strep and

yeast.  I am on Famvir, and I've felt better the last half of this year than I

have since 2001 when I first got strep the last bout of this.  But the

doxycycline is an immune modulator, and it's just magic to me.  And I've been

convincing some of my family with immune related problems, and it has cured

adult eczema, reduced pretty severe asthma to a point where she almost didn't

need inhalers for a while, fibromyalgia, put ulcerative colitis in remission ...

and that's just a couple of people.

If you find you a good doc that understands the immune triggers that cause the

pain you're suffering, it could make a ton of difference.

I heard Dr Klimas (on the board - Dr G's mentor, I think?) opened a clinic

in Miami - if I wasn't already happy with Dr (so grateful!), I'd go see

her docs at the new CFS clinic.  She rocks!  And Dr will treat adults,

too - in Port Aransas TX (near Corpus Christi).
