It can be so confusing trying to figure out a DX.

You may even get different opinions from different

doctors, but for sure she has a set of emotional control, impulse control,

executive control deficits and perhaps learning issues, and perhaps social

impairment making life difficult. My daughter has

primarily AS but she also has learning issues, attentional

issues, anxiety, sleep issues and impulse control

issues. It is a mix of issues.

A neuropsychological test will help a lot to figure

out her cognitive profile. This helps a lot.

Child psychiatrist may try to treat her with a

antidepressamt (unless her parents have Bipolar)

to see if this calms her some. If at a low dose there

is any increase in agitiation you would stop this medication.

This could help her overall be easier to get along with.

If the doctor suspects Bipolar they will want to

treat that first and foremost with a mood stabizer.

Stimulants sometimes increase anxiety, anger and agitiation.

In a pure ADHD kid they often help the child

stay focused better at school. Some AS kids use them

and they help.

Behavior therapy will help tremendously but not if her

emotions are way out of control. Then the emotional

issue needs to be treated.

Yale Parent and Child Conduct Clinic has a parent

training class for kids that are oppositional

defiant. If it doesn't help at all you know you need

medication.

Hope this helps,

Pam

Hey ya, no it's not night terrors, my son suffered with this and they were awful. They wake up screaming and you can't wake them up, you have to slap them. No, she is still asleep but talks or yells all night. Like 'go away' 'no' etc. KelI will keep climbing the mountain.Sent from Kel's iPhone On 17/07/2010, at 10:07 AM, Christiansen <cathychristiansen84@...> wrote:

Thankyou so much for replying. It's been interesting reading different viewpoints. Just that we are in oz so not sure if we have as great facilities as you guys do. I feel for her though because she doesn't seem to be able to control it. She is really beautiful some of the time but other times grrr! It wouldn't surprise me if she has food sensitivities. Your comment about the

fever - I discovered that my son always gets fever and vomiting with dairy

casein - I believe the fever is from inflammation.

Some foods chemicals (natural and artificial) can give rise to awful behaviour

too - might be worth investigating - can keep food diary (not some foods may

take 24h or more to cause a reaction)

You don't really have to slap them during a night terror. I know it is a consideration when they are screaming in terror with no way to wake them up. With one of ours, we would wake her up less harshly (maybe?) and give her a quick soak in the tub. One morning, she said she had a dream that we gave her a bath during the night. lol. She never woke up enough to realize what was happening but it stopped her screaming and woke her up enough that she could go back to sleep.

Update on daughter My son has aspergers. Was wondering if my daughter was ok because of her violent manner as well as lots of other issues. We finally saw the peaditician yesterday, 4 months it took. Anyway he thinks she may have ADHD and ODD. She has to see a physcologist for more assessment and by pure luck of calling at the right time we got an appointment today, so hopefully it all goes well. Now I feel bad because I feel good about this. Isn't that awful! It's just that I am glad there are some answers that we may be able to work with but it's still awful to be glad your child has a disorder. Also I read that ODD has a lot to do with parenting and mother and child attachment, this makes me feel awful :(Thanks for listening you guys :)I will keep climbing the mountain.Sent from Kel's iPhone On 18/07/2010, at 6:45

Hang in there . I know you feel relieved that someone is going to figure out what to do! That is a normal reaction! As for ODD being your fault, I doubt that. I think it more likely that you will have to learn very specific ways of managing her, if that ends up being her dx. In other words, she doesn't have ODD because you parent wrong but because she has ODD, you will have to have specific parenting strategies to use to manage her. Good luck!

Subject: ADHD

To my esteemed colleagues and your vast knowledge,

I have a adult patient that was diagnosed with ADD/ADHD a very long time ago. About 5 years ago he discontinued his medication/MD approach and incorporated chiropractic and naturoptahic care, nutritional interventions and various lifestyle changes. He made considerable improvement. He is a very productive, well educated and motivated individual and is looking for a psychologist in the ville, L.O., Tigard, Beaverton area, that is well respected in the area of ADD/ADHD, to be part of his care team also. He is looking for someone who is extremely knowledgeable in that area and not just a adjunct to their existing psychology/counseling services. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I thank-you for sharing.
