Guest guest
, You poor thing! I¹m so sorry. Do you have a ative Extension System office in your area? Those people know everything and give great advice, and it¹s usually free. They have publications on just about everything (I think some of the publications may cost a little bit). If you know anyone that is involved in 4H, they would probably be able to tell you where the office is. Alternatively, look at this link... http://www.aces.edu/counties/ On that page you can find your local reps and also click ³about extension² and learn a little about extension services if you¹re not familiar with them. Also Google ³extension service +mold in landscaping +alabama². It sounds like insects can cause a problem with a substance they secrete called honeydew. I¹m not sure if this applies more than one type of landscape mold or not. For more, you can read this... http://baker.ifas.ufl.edu/Horticulture/documents/BlackSootyMoldonLandscapePl ants.pdf (Of course, this is probably not the right kind of mold but the idea that getting the insects under control can control the mildew is interesting). Anyway, if you can get hold of the right extension agent to talk to, be armed with a baggie with some of the moldy material in it or photos so they know what you¹re dealing with. Extension agents are a rare breed... they love to help people and they generally work hard to help people find what they need. Oh, can¹t we just have ONE easy week? Gilda Radner was so right... It¹s always something. Hugs, Caroline
Guest guest
Thanks Caroline! I will definitely look into that. What I've looked at so far looks very helpful! Guest guest
I would call a mold specialist, maybe even to take some samples. This will cost you, so ask how much to come take a look. They are very knowledgeable about what to do.  Most mold will not kill you and it is always around so don't be too alarmed.  Sincerely Noel From: <thecolemans4@...> Subject: Help - mold or mildew problem " " < > Date: Wednesday, July 21, 2010, 5:43 PM  Hi - hope someone can help. I have a mold or mildew problem on the outside of my house. Apparently the landscaping (bushes, junipers, maybe even mulch and dirt) all along the front of my house smell like mold or mildew. I've seen a couple of surfaces on flower pots have it grow on them, and I can kill that, but I can't figure out exactly where they are. I have some large shrubs, and the smell is stronger when I pass them. It's about intolerable, and the odor hits me as soon as I open my car door in the driveway on the other end of the house. The smell comes in on us if we come thru the front door, and I think it has spread (lightly) into the garage/basement. At this point I would come in the back door (if the key worked) instead of going in either way, because we carry the smell into the house. Since the a/c is in the basement, I'm afraid it may be inside and being circulated thru the house as well, because if my mom comes over (and she's ultra sensitive), she says she smells it inside too. Of course it could have come in with her, but I just don't know. So far we aren't really very sick from it - in fact I feel better this week than I have in months lol. But this is sooooo not ok. Does anyone know how to get rid of something like this in the landscaping? I mean, I guess I could cut everything down and go to dirt, but I bet it's even in the dirt. Do you know if fungicides can be sprayed on things to get rid of it? Would appreciate any advice. It's been here about a week. We had a few wet days and I thought it would pass, because I smell tree mold periodically here in humid Alabama, but it isn't going away - it's getting worse. (And I love my front porch - it was my favorite place to be.) Thanks in advance,
Guest guest
I agree - aside from irritating my eyes, I have not gotten sick from this yet, which struck me as odd, because I'm normally very sensitive, at least to mildew. So it must not be mildew. I guess I'll call and see what I can find out. Thanks, ________________________________ From: NOEL SCHNEIDER <schneid99@...> Sent: Wed, July 21, 2010 10:32:39 PM Subject: Re: Help - mold or mildew problem  I would call a mold specialist, maybe even to take some samples.
