Guest guest
no one has answered my question about dr. G ever finding labs to be normal in a child. any known cases of this? Guest guest
It just depends on the kid ... I think that because it is so neuroprotective and helps with the blood flow according to SPECT, it is supposed to be one of the most beneficial things we can do for them - along with diet. Dr G said he has seen kids that have just been on the diet and SSRI and that their SPECTs looked so much better than kids that had been thru all sorts of DAN! treatments and therapies. My son came off the ssri for a couple of years and seemed fine, but when we started back on it, I could see how it helped him, so we stick to a very low dose (because any higher he seems to have a hard time), and I feel safe with it. Guest guest
I am also still waiting on someone to respond to this question. Has anyone come off some or all of the meds or do they taper down at some point? Marcia, is your son still on medication? I do believe the meds are necessary, but my husband and I are wondering if this is a life long thing. Thanks, Colleen
Guest guest
Colleen, So far for us my son is still on the meds although I know some kid's systems have kicked in and they can do without some of them. We tried to eliminate the antifungal this summer but it didn't work for . Dr. G thinks he has agents that will right the immune system permanently. But they must go through FDA testing and development before they can be developed for this purpose. He still is trying to procure the funding to do this. Until then we will take meds realizing the alternative for our kid won't work. Some people with diabetes have to take meds their entire lives to stay healthy. I guess for our kids it might be the same. Best, Marcia
Guest guest
This is the answer Ive gotten from Dr. G when Ive asked the same thing. Until we have the proper drugs that will FIX this disease, we will have to use drugs that can manage it. > > Colleen, > > So far for us my son is still on the meds although I know some kid's > systems have kicked in and they can do without some of them. Guest guest
Without her meds, Dr. Temple Grandin would be " incapacitated by constant anxiety and stress-related health problems " . She has been taking Norpramin for the last 25 + years and will be on meds for life. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of and Marcia Hinds Sent: July 30, 2010 9:20 AM colleendesigns@...; Subject: Re: When do the children come off the SSRI Colleen, So far for us my son is still on the meds although I know some kid's systems have kicked in and they can do without some of them. Guest guest
Thank you for this response. I think this and Randy's were very helpful. I would never want to be back where he was without the meds. We started with Dr. Goldberg in November and I only wish I had a documentary follow us from that time forward because we have seen such significant changes these last six months. is learning at a pace he never learned at before seeing Dr. G not to mention because his awareness of what is going on around him has increased so significantly, he is learning more naturally and on his own rather than forcing him to learn everything. It's a small question to someone who hasn't walked in our shoes, but every time I hear him ask me- Mommy, what was that?- I pause- I never thought he'd have enough interest in anything to ask me questions on his own about it. On a side note, we started immunovir this week so if anyone is starting at the same time and wants to keep in touch on this, let me know. Guest guest
Hi Marcia, I am interested, if you wouldn't mind sharing, what symptoms or behaviour, you saw that would indicate that was not ready to stay off the antifungal meds? We are just about to do the same with my son, age 11, after being on either of the antifungals Dr. G prescribes for 7 years. At first suggestion of eliminating it from Dr. G I was very excited. However after reading tried unsuccessfully, I am reluctant to do anything that is going to take away all the progress my son has made. I would really appreciate any more info you would be willing to share.
