Guest guest
We have not had any experience like that. I am, however, on vacation with my sister and her boys and my 10 year old nephew has in the last month or so (according to my sister) developed some extreme phobias. He has always been prone to anxiety (not debilitating). He now, though, refuses to use public restrooms, for one (a HUGE problem when you are on vacation). I wonder if their age/developmental stage has any thing to do with it? Kristy " TAMMYandRYAN K " <rtnkraft_1@...> wrote: >Our 10 year old has been on Valtrex for 55 days. He saw the phone on the counter and put it in the cupboard. He was also scared when I picked up my MP3 player. I had to hide it away in a drawer. Luckily, he was very tired and went right to sleep last night at 8:30 and slept all night until 6:00 a.m. >We can only imagine that the Valtrex has something to do with this. Guest guest
We also have a friend whose five year old has refused to use public restrooms and has gotten aggressive with his peers. I should note he is not on the spectrum. This illustrates the fact that it is often difficult to isolate abnormal behavior from regular growing up behavior which can often be annoying or antisocial. When I was growing up there was a six month period where I was growing moss in my closet, looking back on it that is a rather odd behavior for an eight year old. As parents it is hard to step back, we are all learning as we go along. >Our 10 year old has been on Valtrex for 55 days. Guest guest
Hey Tammy, I would suggest you have him checked for strep. A lot of our kids can have it and not show the typical symptoms of fever and sore throat, and instead have psych reactions to it. Also, are you washing off any blue dye? A few kids can be sensitive to that. Poor baby - hope you work this out for him soon. Guest guest
Is he on anything else? How are his stools? Sorry sounds like a weird question. We didn't have a problem with Valtrex at first but eventually we did. - > > Our 10 year old has been on Valtrex for 55 days. Two days ago, he began to have exteme panic/anxiety attacks. Guest guest
How do they check for strep? Throat culture? Blood work? I think strep has been a problem for him in the past, but he never gets a fever. When he was younger, I didn't know he had an ear infection until it burst and I saw pus in his ear. Guest guest
No, he isn't on anything else and his stools are not bad. Not a weird question since we have had lots of problems with that. Usually loose and smelly...but lately they have been good. I haven't seen any other problems since we started Valtrex We have noticed he seems to understand us and is able to follow a one step direction now. He is trying to talk more and is showing more eye contact. Some days, he is MUCH calmer than before. This anxiety thing just instantly appeared and I am wondering why. He did go through a phase like this a few years ago where he was afraid of chairs and would not sit on a kitchen chair. He always wanted the chairs pushed up to the table and he wouldn't even go near our table for several months. I had to feed him on the couch. We eventually lured him to the table with his favorite treats and he realized it was safe to sit there so he got over it. Now his anxiety is aimed at cell phones. He freaks out if anyone pulls anything out of their pocket and says " No phone no phone! " Everyone has phones these days, so it is a constant problem for him. He looks at everyone like they are going to kill him with their phone. It is hard to see your kid so scared... Guest guest
Dr. Goldberg looks at blood work (ASO titer) for strep. Could it be the noise of the phone ringing (and the MP3 player) that is upsetting your son? I guess he might cover his ears if that was the problem, but you never know. When he was younger, my son heard me whisper that I was going to put a toy of his away through TWO closed solid wood doors and across a 2 yard hallway. He screamed ³No, you¹re not!² from his room. It still blows my mind when I think about it. Some of these kids have such hypersensitive hearing is it just incredible. Caroline

Guest guest
Tammy, so glad you saw some gains with Valtrex. Those are the same gains we saw with Valtrex, too. Much clearer and actually able to follow directions. But we did end up with anxiety issues and that was due to allergies. However your son might benefit from the addition of the SSRI, many kids do I have heard but mine didn't. - > > > > No, he isn't on anything else and his stools are not bad.
