Vinpocetine

Bill,

Great post! I've been using vinpocetine for about a year, and so has my mom. One

thing you didn't mention is that an hour after taking 10 mg of vinpocetine, as

soon as a question forms in your mind, the answer is there. At least for me! It

almost feels like a race to see if the question can be formed faster than the

answer. ;-)

Also, I have read that studies show 10 mg is the max effective dose at one time.

No greater benefit derives from larger doses, though it can be taken up to four

times a day. This is common with nootropic drugs that have the wonderful & safe

effects vinpocetine does. It is called the " inverted U effect. " What that means

is that too little doesn't do much, and too much has a diminishing effect. But

vinpocetine is the best for memory recall & for the eyes. Other good ones to

investigate are piracetam, hydergine, pramiracetam, lucidril, deprenyl, &

bromocriptine. I'm taking all of the above except bromocriptine. I was taking

it, but stopped when I started injecting growth hormone.

Vinpocetine & leutine are the two things that halted the progression of my

82-year old mom's blindness from macular degeneration. She's moving in with me

next week, and along with one of Saul's ozone generators that is arriving

tomorrow, I hope to help her reverse her blindness. Saul says he's heard of

macular degeneration improving with ozone insufflation.

And those prices you quote -- WOW! I've been paying $28 for 120 10 mg tabs. Your

sources are about 1/3 cheaper.

Most likely the progress will only continue as long as the vinpocetine

does.

There are certain limited situations where it does lead to lasting

improvement when discontinued, but this is less common than needing to

keep taking it.

Since it is cheap and innocuous I wouldn't worry about that. After

all, if you stop giving your kid food or water they die. That doesn't

make them something to minimize or avoid.

I can only respond for myself. I tried to go without for a few days (lazy,

basically) and that's about how long it took to realize that this was going

to be daily. However, there was virtually no " make-up " time before I started

to see the benefits.

I only take 5 mg daily. My son (with Andy's encouragement) just went to 10

mg.

No ill side effects. No other change either, but the changes we always see

are subtle, not overt.

In the countries where the stuff has been used for decades, it is

invariably prescribed several times per day. 3 or 4 is typical.

You might try your son on 5 mg twice a day rather than 10 mg daily.

Quick question for anyone. I will be doing the hair test soon on my 4 1/2 yr.

old. Should my child be on vitamins prior to taking the test? He is taking

Nu-Thera and Cod Liver Oil right now. Does it throw off the results at all?

Should I delete the vitamins for a more accurate reading or don't the vitamins

matter???

Thanks.

Just saw this mention of Vinpocetine, so I thought I would respond. We have

used this twice with our son. (The bottles are little so they get used up

quickly.) He got energized and more verbal as I recall. It was definitely

something I had noted as being of some help. I just need to get more of it.

(His bottles were flavored so it didn't taste bad at all.)

I just started my son on Vinpocetine yesterday; he's getting 1/2 cap per day,

working up to 1 cap per day. He has been more irritible, stimmy, & generally

upset.

What reactions & eventually what improvements have folks seen with

Vinpocetine?

Thanks in advance,

Michele

Hi Valentina,

I'm not giving up on it just yet; he does tend to overreact to supplements

easily. (Very sensitive). He has 5mg capsules & only gets 1/2/day of that

right now. His nutritionist said 5mg would be enough for now. If he does okay

we might raise it I guess. Do you give them am-mid-pm? with meals? I've been

giving along with other supps in the am.

That's great about your son - we've never seen startling results with

anything with our son as of yet; little bits & pieces of improvements here &

there. Nystatin has set him back. I was hoping for the best with this one &

will keep up with it; it's too early to tell yet.

Thanks!

Hi Michele,

I give my son 5mg of Vinpocetine 3 times a day (we started about 3 weeks

ago) and

all I can say is that I am amazed. He changed in better in so many ways...

It is

a pleasure for me these days to look at him, to go out with him, to see him

learning and acquiring new skills.

He became so calm these days, that Sunday I had to stop this round of

chelation

because I wasn't sure what's happening with him. I never saw my son so calm

before. I thought maybe something is wrong with him because of chelation or

something... but he was fine...

It's amazing. It's like he's finally able to sit still and listen.

He definitely can hear better. He is saying now every word I ask him to

repeat.

Also, his words are so clear... anybody can understand them. He says a lot of

words by himself also, he asks for things...

His fine motor skills improved dramatically! He can draw by himself, he uses

the

computer and plays games, he finally likes legos and other building stuff...

I am sorry it's not working for you...

I wish I knew what exactly this Vinpocetine does because my son improved so

much

since I give it to him...

My son used to react to supplements too a year ago, when we started chelation,

but

I was never sure if he really reacts to supplements or if that's his natural

state. He used to be so hyper, and would cry for no reason and have tamper

tantrums and Boy! I still remember how every day I had to put stuff back in all

my

cabinets and drawers because that was like his favorite occupation...

Anyway, he is a completely new kid now.

Yes, I give it in the morning, at noon and in the evening. I give it with or

without meals, with or without other supplements. I don't think it matters.

I give him 5mg each time, so 15mg a day.

I really hope you'll see good results. Maybe you need to give more... I don't

know... We saw changes from the first 3-4 days, but I thought I am imagining :)

I plan in lowering the dose soon. I will go to 2.5mg/dose. I was reading

somewhere

that you have to start with a higher dose and keep it up for about a month or so

and then lower it. I have no idea if this is how you're suppose to do it, but it

worked for my son.

Did you start out at a full dose of 15mg? I've always been in the habit of

starting slowly with him since he's so sensitive. I may give him that extra

1/2 to get up to 5mg today & see how it goes.

He's been volitile since starting Nystatin so it could just still be that;

I've hated this round of treatments! We're going on to other anti fungals

soon (should be " fun " ). Then chelation.

Thanks,

Michele

Hi Michele,

Yes. I started giving him 5mg, 3 times a day, so 15mg a day.

I only tried once to give Nystatin to my son, but the reaction he had... I

don't think I will try that again. He is doing great with GSE, other yeast

killers, but not Nystatin. I don't know what's special about Nystatin, but it

made my son so aggressive and emotional and he was acting like he's getting

crazy. Very weird. I stopped it fast.

We've had a rough time with it as well. We had 1 more refill but I'm ending

it here. She said we would go on to Flagel & after some natural antifungals.

Any experience with flagel?

Hi Michele,

I don't know how much my experience with Flagyl will help you...

I didn't give my son Flagyl after we started chelation. I gave him this before I

even knew something is wrong with him. He was very small, and full of yeast and

parasites. Of course he had horrible reactions every time I tried it because I

wasn't helping his body with anything else, and I was giving him full dose,

because... that's what the good doctor told me to do (even if the pharmacist

told

me to start with a smaller dose).

Anyway, my son had problems every time we tried it... rashes, allergies, crazy

behavior, vomiting... you know the picture... But as I said, I wasn't doing it

right, so I don't know what to tell you... Try it... see what's happening...

Just

start with a small dose and give supplements to support his body to get rid of

the

toxins.

Good luck :)

Have you considered that some of the negative side effects of vinpocetine

aren't really harming your son? For example, headaches can sometimes mean

healing because of increased blood flow to an area that had previous

hypoperfusion.

Inflammation and increased blood flow in healing an area (could be caused by

vinpocetine) would be uncomfortable but might actually be beneficial.

When I got deeper into chelation I got some wicked headaches that I

intuitively recognized as healing headaches...

One explanation for increased sound sensitivities would be that the increased

blood flow to new parts of the brain are also carrying circulating mercury to

those new parts of the brain, resulting in new Hg side effects. So it is a

balancing act between the two - benefits and downfalls of vinpocetine.

But, vinpocetine is also a potent brain ANTIOXIDANT according to my

conversations with Andy (Andy, correct me if I'm wrong) so it is probably also

doing

wonders for protecting his brain.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.
