Bill,

The negative study from the CDC was released early this morning. The positive

FDA/NIH study is not released. It " appears " that Alter wants to go back and

review his work. The FDA/NIH paper was accepted and ready to be published. This

looks really bad.

If you go back through both teams work Dr Alter and Mr Switzer have come up on

opposite sides of the coin before. Makes me wonder about procedure issues.

Negative results can easily be attributed to poor lab work. Not so with positive

findings for specific antibodies and DNA. I heard it said back in January that

the difference between WPI findings and the European findings was simply that PI

looked harder (from more angles/tests). Makes you consider the politics behind

the CDC vs NIH.

Probably you know, but in any case it's good to share among concerned

parents: Wakefield's research paper showing the developmental effects of the

hB vaccine with a an animal model (study with primates) was also withdrawned

from publication after being accepted through the process of peer

review. There was a very thorough note on how it happen, but I can not find

the link now. I believe that paper offerred solid base as of the

physical/organic origin of this disease.

Absolutely there is politics involved. I have several lines of thought.

Actually, my thoughts are all over the place. One - Kristy is right. The CDC is

in charge of the vaccinations. We should really rename the CDC to CYA. Now, I am

not saying I know where XMRV comes from (although I am thinking vaccinations).

But, if you put that aside, the huge increase in the vaccination schedule is

triggering the immune system and XMRV.

I am thankful that the positive NIH/FDA study did leak out. If I did not have

that, I would be pulling my hair out at this point. This looks like the

DeFreitas thing all over again. The good thing is that Dr. Mikovits is healthy

and smart and she has the history to make sure that this research goes forward.

The WPI (and your sister -well, actually all of us) are fighting an uphill

battle. If you have time, just watch or read " and the band played on " . We have

to make sure that history does not repeat itself.

All the best,

Jill

p.s. I am looking up every one of those CYA authors on that negative paper.

I am with Jill (and probably everyone else here). Unfortunately, there are a

few guys worried more about their careers because they have needlessly wasted

time and money for years (Reeves is one of them) and now they want to debunk the

XMRV link because they have been labeling CFS as a psychosomatic illness. It

turns out the CDC is holding back the NIH/FDA paper for " scientific pause " but

yet sent theirs in for publication without changing it one bit.

http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2010/07/01/cdc-teams-xmrv-chronic-fatigue-syndrome-p\

aper-is-out/

I hope sooner or later these guys get their dues. Until then we can't get

discouraged about XMRV/CFS/Autism research, we can help by donating to WPI for

their studies, because you can bet they won't be getting funding now.
