Thank you for letting us know Helena!!  My steps shall be lighter for the rest of the day -  am SO happy for you!! Ingrid

I feel obligated to give an update; although I feel somewhat embarrassed for worrying so much. I am told by a vet that he could have/should have died.

Malkie made it!  After three days of being blocked and almost dead, he peed! He PEED!He is not out of danger, since this is a chronic permanent condition, but he is alive for now. I am a happy mommy.  It could happen again, and will.  For now, for this moment, I have my precious Malkie purring in my lap and am just loving his feline preciousness.

I appreciate all who reached out to me.  It helped me to ACT according to my values (more on that if you want to ask).  Thank you so much.Helena

Yes, I'll ask.. very curious...how did you find the feedback help you with values? Good news, BTW! To: ACT <act_for_the_public > Sent: Saturday, July 28, 2012 12:38 PM Subject: Malkie Update - He Lives!

oh I am so happy for you! I apologize if this story is a repeat. In 2006 I was

at someone's home office talking about a website for my work, and this black and

white cat came running in jumps up on me and starts talking a mile a minute, he

had so much to tell me!

They said his name Newton, I said 'Sir Issac?' and they say 'fig'. he had a

sibling named Oreo. Around here he is definately Sir Issac---but answers to

Newtie.... they said I could have him if I wanted (?) there was something wrong

with his lungs and they couldn't afford his care. (he seemed healthy to me and I

had a good job then, and felt I could afford the vet bills, at least get a 2nd

opinon from my Vet.) I took him that second. My vet guessed he as already 10

years old then, I couldn't believe it. AFter a $800 'workup' she put him on meds

that cost $30/month and told me he wouldn't live long.

Forward 5 years.

In 2011 he seemed a bit 'off' and the vet found cancer, something in addition to

what ever it is that is wrong with his lungs. She said I could take him home but

that she said he would die within a few weeks. That was 14 months ago. My vet

says he is definately one of the most hardy guys she has met. So, we watch

movies together, he still enjoys playing together, and being brushed and combed,

and is one very happy cat. I am one very blessed cat mom. They were going to

euthanize him! he has been my friend for over 6 years......

of course, I know you are doing this, and I still have to ask, if Malkie is on

that special cat food from the vet for neutered males with urinary track issues?

Newtie sends his best regards to Malkie--they are both beating the odds, these 2

gentlemen obviously have many more than the traditional 9 lives.

What a great story about Newtie! I'm so glad you took him into your heart and home. So sweet that he picked you the moment he met you!Yes, Malkie is on special food the vet prescribed. It's a challenge to keep him away from my female cat's food - she won't touch Malkie'e wet food (likes only dry), which is OK 'cause it's so expensive. I put her food away when I'm not home and I keep an eagle eye on Malkie when I am, and he is usually on my lap. Thanks for sharing such a heartwarming story. When I took Malkie in, and Jazzy before him, and many others over the past decades, I was definitely acting toward my values in more ways than one (connection, helping the underdog (um, undercat), being a good mom, treating myself to some unconditional love, etc.). Malkie returns Newtie's greetings and wants to make a play date (sorry for being cheesy, folks!)...Helena To: "ACT for the Public" <ACT_for_the_Public >Sent: Saturday, July 28, 2012 9:29:58 PMSubject: Re: Malkie Update - He Lives!

Happy to elaborate ... As I was experiencing great emotional angst, fear of loss, and distress about Malkie's suffering, all that offered a perfect opportunity to put ACT in practice: defusing excessive worry, accepting 'what is', and not beating myself up with guilt (the self-compassion you mentioned to me in a post). The caring support I felt from those who responded to my post about Malkie was so helpful in keeping me focused on my values; I was not alone. I was able to go to work, thus honoring my value of being a reliable employee (although it did conflict with my value of being a good mom - I so wanted to stay home with him). In the past, I probably would have taken the day off to helplessly sit with worry and anxiety; instead, I moved my feet out the door. I mentioned some other values in my post to Wanda so won't repeat them here.HelenaTo: "ACT for the Public" <ACT_for_the_Public >Sent: Saturday, July 28, 2012 8:17:11 PMSubject: Re: Malkie Update - He Lives!
