Guest guest
Hi there, I have been lurking for a couple of weeks getting a feeling for how the group works and am sticking my head up finally to say hi. I suffer with depression mostly and some anxiety withs some limited success with pharma and talk therapy but discovered ACT a couple of months ago and am intrigued. I have been using a similar group to tackle alcohol addiction with a lot of success so the format does seem to work for me. So far I have read a number of articles and a Russ book from the library and am currently reading 'Get Out of Your Mind...' though I confess I haven't been doing the exercises religiously' I have been doing a lot of thinking about values and have done a couple of exercises in hopes of nailing that down. I am married with 4 children, all school aged, and work full time in a public service, middle management job. Work is my biggest issue at the moment as changes in management staff over the last few years have left the whole workforce fairly deflated and I am struggling - it seems this circumstance has evolved just as I gave up drinking alcohol so I have not seen the kind of emotional gains I expected. I had the power to give up drinking so I believe I have the power to do other things positive for myself but want to ensure I put my efforts into something that will deliver results. It feels great to be sharing with other intelligent and caring people Cheers
Guest guest
Hi ,Thanks for sharing your story and welcome. I am a relative newby to the list and have been amazed at how much it means to share your thoughts and emotions and to read others¨ stories and know there are many who suffer as you do---with many of the same symptoms. When I hear others talk about their struggles and successes, it reminds me I am not alone. In addition, I learn so much. I have almost finished Get Out Of Your Mind and it has given me some good techniques and has, I believe, helped me face a lot of past pain. I am still working on facing it and dealing with it (anxiety, depression, obsessive thinking, internal fear) and I probably always will be, but knowing there are methods and companions in the struggles make it a little more bearable and increases hope for success.WelcomePhil Hi there, I have been lurking for a couple of weeks getting a feeling for how the group works and am sticking my head up finally to say hi.
