Guest guest
Hi Susie,I've only used malic acid for liver/GB support; never heard of it being used for muscle spasms before it recently came up.I've always been able to perspire a lot; a detox blessing, but it tends to deplete electrolytes. Long before Lyme diagnosis and learning about the mag. deficiency most Lymies have, whenever I'd get stomach cramps from the heat of summer, or awaken with fierce charlie-horses in the night, I learned that potassium is the deficiency that can cause this in my case. Works for me.When I began to do S & C and drink half my weight in oz of good water a day, I noticed this disturbed my electrolyte balance, and I'd get wicked spasms, so I added potassium to my daily regime. We really have to pay attention to our mineral balances. We're all different. Mag is the usual deficiency for most Lymies that causes spasms, but for me, the first, crucial supplement seems to be potassium. If I so much as skip my morning banana, I notice a difference. As for hard lumpy stuff, with Lyme, it could be a concentrated area of infection, or trigger-points that have developed from unresolved muscle spasms in the past. The area will shut down, muscle activity and circulation will bypass the area, and these areas will become trigger points. This is only my flawed layperson's summary. I read about it in a book by Bonnie Prudden, called either 'Erase Pain' or 'Pain Erasure'. There are ways to break these up and resume proper circulation in the area. Google 'trigger points' and see what you can learn.Be well,Léna Lena, When you talk about malic acid, A-SG or baking soda for muscle pain, do you think that would also include muscle spasms? For years I have had tight hard lumpy areas in my upper back/shoulder blade area that never go away. I use a high-bounce ball against a wall & lean into the painful areas & it is excruciating, but sometimes it helps minimally. For the last few years, I have developed these lumpy painful areas along the side & front of my thighs which is making it harder & harder to walk because my legs are weak. Often times I can feel the spasm start in the front of my thigh & if I massage it for a few minutes, it will get unbearably itchy & I can't make it stop itching for a long time. Then the next day the muscle hurts alot from all the rubbing & scratching that I did. I did try malic acid years ago & it didn't seem to help me then, so that was why I was asking about your muscle pain. It must be different from the spasms. I wish I knew what was causing these spasms & what to do for them. I take 600 mg mag daily. I wonder if any of the co-infections cause muscle spasms. I welcome any comments about other people's experiences/successes with alleviating muscle spasms. Thanks. Susie > > > Has anyone ever tried using Malic acid. I have a friend who has suffered with a lot of muscle pain over the years and has done everything to try to help. She has just started taking this and she said it has really really helped. I have started having horrible lower back muscle tightening and it has caused a lot of leg achiness, tingling and heavyness. Today is especially bad. I did do a mere 30sec for Bart yesterday and maybe that is part of the problem however this symptom started after a cold in January. It's just getting worse now. > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Susie,If you're not already, get yourself some magnesium malate. I take the Source Naturals brand. Take 1-2 tablets with each meal. Takes care of the muscle tightness and knots. I used to get horrible headaches until I started supplementing magnesium, and the muscles in my neck could relax somewhat. Some people claim supplemental magnesium feeds Lyme, but if Lyme is robbing our body of mag, we need to replace it somehow, so our bodies can function. Guest guest
Yes, magnesium malate is the combination of Malic Acid and Mg. As we have all heard on this forum that the safest Mg replacement is the Mag oil (MgCl) I was nervous about taking the magnesium in this combination supplement. However, that being said, I just read that Magnesium is required for absorption of the Malic Acid into the cells/tissues. SO..... you can get it separately but it seems that the combination is better. It's cheap enough to give it a try. I know I have put up with the back tightening and thigh muscle pain long enough. I am getting to the point where I am not sure if I would be able to walk around a mall without repercussions that next day etc... we all know that story. Guest guest
Hi Susie,In the decades of undiagnosed Lyme I had numerous intractable issues that had no answer. Eventually, I just gave up on thinking they'd ever go away, but surprisingly, after a couple years of patient, methodical, diligent Lyme protocols, they all did. Lyme is somehow at the bottom of most of my issues, and they were bound to improve as the pathogen load went down. It's truly amazing: the large, calcified node under my jaw that hurt constantly and worried docs has gone. The spurs on my cervical spine have gone. The awful lump on the back of my hand that was slowly forcing the meta-carpals of two fingers apart and making the fingers almost useless; gone. The night-sweats that made me think years ago that our water-bed was leaking: gone. Along with my protocols, I had the support of Reiki, hypnotherapy, focussing, and many other things that helped me keep me steady. Maybe these helped my mental/emotional outlook fastened to a positive outcome. i don't know. Just keep on killing, detoxing and trying whatever you can and eventually things will change. That's all I can offer, I guess.Be well,Léna Lena, Aren't you the lucky one that can sweat. I'd rather be able to sweat & take minerals then not be able to sweat & detox easier. I have been taking 99 mg potassium & maybe it would help with the charley-horse type of spasm, it won't with these other lumps. I have all the books on triggerpoints, believe me, & have endured painful triggerpoint injections myofascial release massage all in vain. Nothing gets rid of them & I continue to get more in different places. Maybe it's a Lyme or cos symptom that I don't know about. The painful lumps started in 1986 when I was hurt during an exam by a chiropracter. After that I was always given the dx fibromyalgia. I don't believe in that word though. All it means to me is that the cause hasn't been determined yet. At this point, I have basically given up trying to find out what the cause is because it's a hopeless case. I can only hope as I get more toxins out, maybe the condition will get better. Thanks for the tips. Susie > > > > > > > Has anyone ever tried using Malic acid. Guest guest
Hi Susie and Shauna, All kinds of oral magnesium helps to form biofilms and feeds spirochetes... Dr. K recommends only IV and transdermal versions of magnesium, thus the reason the group uses magnesium oil applied to the skin.
