Yes, yes, yes!!! A source of continual frustration; however, in the past week,

we have seen some gains in expressive language. His speech therapist at school

told me that they are noticing as well. His processing time has improved as well

and I believe that's part of the reason that his expressive language is

blossoming. IMHO, expressive language is one of the last things to develop even

though they understand what they are being told. For Noah, it always seemed as

if he knew what he wanted to say but he couldn't quite figure out how to say it.

Slowly, that is turning around. This is after almost four years on the protocol.

All the best,

Robyn

Thanks Robyn & that is great news for you.

I think I relate to that as we do communicate without words like dragging to

object of interest etc.

Do you know which part (lobe) is responsible for expressive language. I

understand a bulk of the receptive is in the temporal lobe but the frontal

cortex, occipital get " looped in " for expressive but curious if anyone in the

list has more information on this & saw correlation of the hypothesis to say a

spect scan.

Thanks,

Kay

Check this site out. It really helps regarding the different parts of the brain

and their functions. How old is your son and how long has he been on the

Also, I can not say enough about Neurofeedback that we did with Dr

Dogris in Bishop, Ca this past summer. Roff's expressive language went through

the roof!!! And it continues to improve. Dr. Goldberg approves of it apparently.

I highly recommend him. One child he started treating at 16 is now in his 3rd

year of college studying graphic design. His mother said his teachers called

during high school and said what Miracle has happened?

So, if you want to jump start your childs language while doing , think about

it. I can't wait to do more NF. It's expensive ($800 for iniitial mapping and

$100 per treatment after), but what else is new?

Hope this may help! You can order the DVD about this boy on line. It's called:

" JJ's Journey, A Journey About Autism. "

I think the research paper posted recently (was it here?) is also very

interesting, as it documents significant regressions in expressive & receptive

speech during AIDS that is very similar (if not the same as?) to autism, and it

shows a sometimes complete recovery of those after treatment.

It's one of my favorite papers.  I've read it a few times a year for years.

And

w/XMRV, it's making it's rounds of interest again.

Hi, Robyn,

No I don't live near Bishop. I live 5 hours (in good weather) to the North. I

used a friend's condo for some of the time and stayed in a hotel in Bishop the

others. I went 5 weeks this past summer for 3-4 treatments per week. So, 15 to

18 visits.

I went to Dr Dogris because he is the one who treated JJ. I wanted the same

results! :)

I highly recommend it! I can't wait to take Roff again!

I wonder how NF would help an adult like me w/anxiety and ocd?  Seems like I've

seen it as suggested treatment.

I'd have to wait till my husband is working again (anyone need a good technical

service engineer? He wants into the medical equipment now...), but I think I

need to be doing more than just meds.

Sheryl, Did you look into the other providers of Neurofeedback or is Dr Dogris

apart from the others?

Does the process entail sitting down for an hour or with electrodes strapped -

as I am thinking that may be a challenge for some toddlers.

Hi, Kay,

I went to Dr Dogris because he has a proven track record of improving cognition,

speech, behavior, eye contact, Autism, social and siezures.

Treatment is 20 -30 minutes. He has developed a cap with electrodes. So it's

comfy, easy and quick to put on. He let's your child watch any DVD they want.

Bring a fave that you know they will be absorbed in. It's easy.

Afterwards he directs you to feed them high quality protien/food and drink

plenty of water.

Hi Sheryl,

This does not sound like it's the typical Neurofeedback, where they

electrodes all over your head and they made you play games " with your "

Right. It is technology developed by Dr Dogris and an engineer from MIT. They

create a neurofield.

After he maps the energy and wave amplitudes of each area of the brain, he is

able to see where your brain is " hot " or where it is cold electrically or not

firing. For Roff, the hot area was his original seizure focus area. I knew

where this was from previous neuro spect scans he had at St. Louis Children's

Hospital. Then he had underactive areas. They have standardized measurements

for NT kids, which they try to bring each brain up to those levels.

We saw improved language and clarity immediately! When my husband and daughter

came down to visit us one weekend after the first week, they noticed

improvements. His teacher and therapists were all amazed in the fall.

And the improvements have not diminished with time.

Sheryl, Did you look into the other providers of Neurofeedback or is

Dr Dogris

apart from the others?

Does the process entail sitting down for an hour or with electrodes

strapped -

as I am thinking that may be a challenge for some toddlers.

Thanks,

Kay

I went to Dr Dogris because he is the one who treated JJ. I wanted

I highly recommend it! I can't wait to take Roff again!

We have been doing the protocol for about 3 months & have seen

a lot of

gains with receptive speech but not much with expressive speech.

Has anyone had

similar experience?

Thanks,

Kay

Thank you Sheryl, it sounds like good therapy! I wonder if he could

help " echolalia " . Do they have a website?

Thanks Robyn! I hope it works! We spent over $10,000.00 on

Neurofeedback a couple of years ago! Thank God our insurance covered

some.

Besides Sheryl, who found neurofeedback with Dr Dogris, quite effective, have

other parents found it to be good.

Is what Dr Dogris uses significantly different from say another provider? How

can I evaluate the different approaches?

Thanks,

Kay

Hi, Kay,

I found out about it from a mom whose son was helped so much, he is doing quite

well in college. I met with them while I was at Mammoth. He converses very

well.

They introduced me to another mom in Bishop whose

" A " daughter also sees Dr Dogris. I keep in touch with both moms on fb and

everyone continues to do well.

The technical questions I am not qualified to answer, but if you call Dr Dogris,

he may be able to address them. (if he has time. He's awfully busy. )

Hope that helps.
