It should. Dr. G uses a variety, including Paxil, Celexa, and Zoloft.

All the best,

Is paxil the only ssri used to increase blood flow to the brain? We are

starting my 5 year old on zoloft as serotonin increase really helps him. Will it

also increase blood flow to his brain?

Dr Goldberg knows it increases blood flow according to his experience

w/NeuroSpect scans, and more than just paxil are known.  Zoloft is often his

second choice after paxil (it really depends on a kids' symptoms etc).  So yes,

they will help, including others like prozac.

It's also known that SSRIs are neuroprotective and mildly immune-modulating as

well.

You still, of course, want to be removing any other triggers that set off the

immune system.  It is thought that part of the effect is inflammation in the

brain is restricting the blood flow, so the more you cool the immune system by

removing triggers (especially diet, and treating any underlying infections - are

even just helping to suppress them), the less inflammation continues.  It all

works together.

Tenex - a vasodilator - is another med that can improve blood flow.  It is more

often used when there is ocd, anxiety, and hyper-activity, in a complement to

the SSRI.

But Dr G said he has seen children do better with no treatment at all other than

a very low allergy low carb/sugar diet and SSRIs (per brain spect) than kids

who

had had tons of supplements and GFCF (potentially high allergy) diet.

How are allergies or sensitivies determined? Milk is the number one allergen so

likely no one should be drinking it, but what about other things?

The diet is posted in the group's files.  Then the individual

child's

sensitivities are determined per child.  Dr G follows eosiniphils (and somehow

reads immune panels, checks IgE, things like that) to see how much diet is

impacting.

Sometimes - I believe I've heard of him using it - usually further down in the

trials, may depend on the age of the child.
