Guest guest
Can anyone explain to me why human nature causes us to blame OURSELVES for having disabling illnesses and chronic pain? I've never understood this part of the psyche. We definitely don't ask for, nor do we cause, these things to happen to us, so why do we fill ourselves with shame, self-doubt as our worths as humans, and even disgust at our situation? If we saw another person in a wheelchair, would we think to blame that person for their lot in life? NO! We would feel sorry for what has happened to that person. Why is it that we can spare that kind of empathy for another human being, yet we cannot spare the same for ourselves? I can understand the occasional wallow in self-pity, as I've been here myself. It's when you choose to stay there, stuck in that self- pity and remaining inert that it becomes a problem. What does one gain from constant self-pity? After a while, even the most caring person grows weary of it, and the pity party becomes a party of one. We find huge fault in our weaknesses, curse our pain filled bodies, and see only a bleak future. We blame doctors who do nothing, but how many just sit and complain and do nothing, and how many are TRUE advocates in the fight against the undertreatment of pain? There is no change when we just stand still. Sorry, I guess my mind was just wandering around tonight, sorting different things out. I hope no one takes offence to my writing. Guest guest
Big hugs! I am sorry you are feeling that way. I occasionally get into a rut while wondering why things have happened. But, I try to use my brain to attempt at trying to find things I can do, not only in life, but for the pain and treatments. I also try to be positive about it, which can be very difficult a lot of times. I certainly hope you begin to feel a little better about your situation. My prayers are with you!
